Seriously, is there any better sporting event than UNC - Duke at Cameron? |
|
No luxury suites
No Jumbotrons
All the good seats go to passionate students instead of fat-cat alums
Two really talented basketball teams that really don't like each other.
Color me psyched.
If you've ever been to one of these epic clashes live you know what I'm talking about. Watching it on the tube just doesn't do it justice.

Been to Cameron a few times, but I'm not wealthy or connected (or a Duke student) for a Duke-Carolina showdown, but I have to say that it's one of the most amazing sports environments. Part of it is that Cameron is a very small venue, with room for about 9,300 people, and it gets incredibly hot as in 'oven hot.'
Tonight's game and my obsession with Lost will have to fight it out...

I have heard from other people who have been there and the some sportsreporters who dare tell the story
That the side of the court we don't see on TV (across from the "Crazies") is the big donors/alums as well as some profs. Is that true?
Apparently Coach K's office in the top of Cameron is harder to get into that the Pope's living quarters--very tight security and complete secrecy about all preparation (including practice)
BTW I despise Duke basketball.

45. Duke Students get all the seats in the lower level |
|
The only exception is that they give the visiting teams a few rows behind their bench.
They only started doing that when Duke Students would chant what the opposing coach was saying during timeouts.

Kind of ironic since State has a great architecture program

Meanwhile the icon of UNC basketball Dean Smith is a staunch progressive. He even set aside the rivalry to help Duke Poli Sci Prof David Price get elected to Congress.

40. I'll take a wild guess and say Kenny Smith. I can't help it if I've adopted the Tar Heels |

only recently.
I'm really a Bruin fan from the Walton days under John Wooden at Pauley Pavilion . Glory days. Bill and his friend, Greg Lee, were good friends with one of my roommates.
So, Dukie, use your spell check next time you want to call people out, because you obviously want to revise history.
Check the facts on the basketball rivalry between Duke and UNC. The Tar Heels lead in every category.

27. Public university vs. school named after a tobacco monopoly |
|
One school represents everything that's good and great about this land. Achieving all that you can no matter what your socio-economic status is.
The other school represents greed and poisoning your fellow man, and a bunch of spoiled brats that weren't quite smart enough to get into the Ivy League, no matter how rich their parents were.
(Ok, that is the alcohol talking, it's really not quite that simple)

UCLA/USC is public school against rich kids. And it's a great rivalry...locally.
It's just that wall to wall coverage of every-fucking-body and his goddam mother on the sports channels telling me that this is the greatest thing since someone invented great things...well, that just gets on my nerves is all.
I guess I'm just a hater...lol.

Rivalry isn't made by the quality of the teams. It is made by the hatred of the teams and the quality of games played. Every year with the Border War, you can throw record aside.
