Proof that going low-carb will kill you |
|
So after gaining a couple of pounds--and yet never losing any, no matter what I do x(--I decided to renew my commitment to going low-carb and made scrambled eggs for lunch. Took my plate into the living room and noshed...then smelled something burning, looked up, and saw smoke in the kitchen.
I had left the burner on, with the empty frying pan on it.
The last little bits of egg are black, as is the back of my wooden spoon that was resting in the frying pan. I now have two windows open to try to get the smoke out before it sets off the smoke alarm.
Yes, I'm a total idiot and/or space cadet, but I choose to blame the low-carb diet. This wouldn't have happened if I had made myself a sammitch! :eyes:

Low-carb is teh evil, then! If I keep this up, I could not only burn my house down, but become a drug-addled, hate-mongering pedophile? Day-um! I think I'll go eat a loaf of bread now.

9. I'm on low carb strictly for diabetes, and it works for me |
|
I hate to have anything in common with Limbaugh, but I guess I do. I haven't turned into an idiot right-wing loonball though. My brain is fine.
Going low carb normalized my blood sugar to where I haven't had an elevated blood sugar reading for 2 years, and my A1C went from 8.9 to 5.7. It also normalized my dangerously high blood pressure to where I don't have to take medications anymore. I haven't lost a lot of weight, about 43 pounds, but my blood work is normal, I feel fine, and my doctor is happy. Good enough for me. It's a boring way to eat, but whenever I think about going off the diet I remember how much I like my feet and eyesight.

I'm hypothyroid, have PCOS, and I'm prediabetic. I went low-carb (and took glucophage) about six years ago to control my high blood sugar and work on my PCOS, and it worked nicely. Plus my fertility came back and I got pregnant! Alas, that trashed my weight-loss program. Sigh. Now got to get back at it...

12. same thing with my dad. He's lost 15 lbs so far, and it's only been two and a half weeks |
|
My clothes are starting to get loose, but thus far, no drop like that.
I had an awful sweet tooth last night. He told me it'd pass, and it sis. I went to breakfast today with a friend, got scrambled eggs and veggies, he got french toast, and i didn't even CARE.
Splenda is the answer to coffee, btw. :)

16. how many carbs a day are you getting? |
|
After reading Dr. Bernstein's book last year when I was diagnosed with type 2, I realized that low carb is the only way to beat the disease. My BS still isn't in control as much as it needs to be.
I typically get about 60 carbs a day. Sometimes a little more. I'm on 750 ER glucophage. My numbers aren't that good, but I'll get a blood test next week and see how things are.

That's the stuff they don't tell you at the doctor's office! I think those medical folks are trying to thin the herd...

7. Remember when everybody and their mom was on those? |

I don't remember anybody getting any skinnier.
My aunt says she lost weight when she was on it the first time it was popular, but she was also on prescription amphetamines. ;)

Well, I have high blood sugar, so it's more to control that. I've been sorely remiss lately, and sometimes I get that high-blood-sugar ooky feeling, so I figured I should take better care of myself.
I did lose 12 lbs. when I went hardcore low-carb, about six years ago, but it's REALLY hard to maintain. I also was on blood-sugar meds, and I know they played a big part in my weight loss.

14. I'm doing moderately low carb |
|
To lose weight.
I have left the stove eye on though, which is worrisome since I live alone. :P But I cook in a cast iron skillet. I heat it up, then turn down the heat and let the pan finish cooking. So, even if I leave the stove on, its not too bad because the temp is low.
I love eating relatively low carb. Since I have sensitivities to both wheat and milk, I'm Lo -Carb anyway. I'm down to protein, low GI veggies and some fruits.
I love not having the mood/energy swings that eating wheat gives me. I've got so much to go, but I hope to be down to my normal self around Christmas. I am trying to keep from becoming diabetic.
It and weightlifting are providing the weight loss this time around.
