Backwards Days

My son’s teacher holds backwards days in class
Where the students come to school in pajamas,
Eat dessert for breakfast, say good night
When they mean good morning. So it is
I say good-bye to you because I hate you
And find you ugly and every moment with you
Is boring to me.
                          (How is it when I speak
These words I am stricken even though I am joking.
How is it I have come to say a word like stricken?)
