I was on google earth and there seems to be hundreds if not thousands of bright blue roofs.

4. Could be an older photo from a couple of years ago.
Although I can still see at least one blue roof in our neighborhood 3+ years after Wilma, and they are still repairing a road wall near us that was knocked down in the storm.

3. Some of those images on Google Earth are ancient.....
The image of my Parents' house includes trees that they had taken out in 2005...

5. Tarps
Our county was hit before this by Hurricane Charley (and three others in quick succession--5 years ago?) and we also have many homes waiting for repair. Or a bulldozer. I know people in the Miami area who also never got help cleaning up after Andrew.

The moral of the story, I think, is that you can't count on anyone to really help after a crisis, especially the government. They're only going to help get bodies and debris out of the way and utilities restored--nothing in the way of long-term help. I'm starting to think my crazy Mormon friend is right; they're apparently taught to keep an emergency supply with food, clothes, etc. for every member of the family to last a year, rotating the stock yearly to keep it fresh.

Unfortunately, we're bombarded with hurricane preparedness messages and most people tune them out. A majority seem to wait until the big storm is less than a day away, and then they all run to WalMart and clean them out of bottled water and Spaghetti-Os. :eyes:
