Poll question: So there's a loud person living above me. |
|
Edited on Sat Feb-14-09 12:17 PM by dem629
There's always this annoying rumbling sound, for lack of a better way of describing it. Sort of what you might hear if someone is moving furniture. It's not a loud crashing sound, but, well I'm stuck with the "rumbling" description.
It happens in the den, and I also sometimes hear it really late at night, in the bedroom. This is a single guy, and he has no pets. (I first wondered if it might be a dog running around or something, but it's not.) I hear this noise EVERY FUCKING DAY.
So what's the best way to handle this?

1. No vote. Maybe you should just ask him about it. "What is |
|
that weird rumbling sound coming out of your apartment?" It could be something as simple as an exercise bike, an electric fan, or a stereo.

5. Well, I was kidding about the vote. However... |
|
there's no way it's an exercise bike, fan or stereo. What it sounds more like is a rocking chair or recliner, but that would mean he moves it from the den to the bedroom and is always getting in or out of it.

Seriously, though. Maybe not a bad guess, but that would mean that the thing is always in two small areas of each room above mine.

Dear Neighbor,
Typically we have had no problems with noise from your apartment, however in the last week the noise from your apartment has kept us up a few nights. We both go to work early and get to bed by 10.30 pm. Yesterday, the noise started at 11.00 pm and continue till 4.00 am. As we both work early we cannot be kept up this late. Could you please ensure that you do not move furniture or blare the music at these hours? We would appreciate it immensely.
We would prefer to settle this amicably and without hostility.
Best,
XYZ

12. If rumbling's all he does |

I'd say you have an ideal neighbor. You want mine? The folks upstairs with the pit bulls are okay - they're mellow dogs, but every once in a while they dance, or at least that's what it sounds like. Usually at about 4 a.m. Do you have any idea how much noise a pair of dancing pit bulls can make? The lady on the other side has every power tool known to human kind. And insomnia. Nothing like a little midnight power sanding to relax a gal. And the young couple next door? Well, lets just say they have an active love life. And a really squeaky mattress.
But I'd just as soon keep those neighbors. At least they aren't creepy. It's the ones who sit outside their doors and glare at everyone that I'd just as soon see leave.
In the meantime, earplugs are cheap. And head-phones are even better.
