Northern WI is a nice place to visit, especially the Bayfield/Apostle Islands area.

37. It is actually just in reference to a response I got from a barthender
in Athelstane when I asked for a bottle of Harp, he said "You're north of 64 babe, we got Bud or Bud" The bar is near our cabin and every year I go in and ask for something I know he won't have so it is kind of a running gag. It is beautiful country north of 64! :hi:

10. Stoughton is a cool town
It's far enough out of Madison to be it's own place but close enough that you won't go out of your head living in a small town. I liked visiting there.

18. it all depends on your
rebooblican tolerance. madison is nice. i live in waukesha which has some flamingly red areas of rednecks and other assorted nuts. odd considering the city is almost 50% hispanic. avoid most of the milwaukee suburbs. red and stupid. milwaukee's ok. but as for jobs... this state is a tax hell for some businesses. the whole heinmann's group of restaurants closed because they didn't want to deal with the paid sick days approved in milwaukee county....

wisconsin's a mixed bag.

27. Although I love my area, Madison
and surrounding communities is a good choice if you plan on moving to wonderful Wisconsin.

Personally, I would shy away from anything up north. Beautiful area, wonderful to visit, but economically depressed.

Good luck with the job search and the move.

28. One might also consider Green Bay,
which has an NFL team, a university, and a variety of job opportunities.

We personally know of two people that went to college in Green Bay and liked it so well, that after graduation they never left. :hi:

30. depends of where the job is
Madison is dem fiendly, lower unemployment rate for the state.

Milwaukee is ok i guess, Jobs are not as plentiful but there are more places to look.

Nice towns up north but employment is sucky--really sucky
There are a number of college towns that would be nice places to live, but again

I don't know
people are really damn nervous about there jobs around here...

31. My dad lives in West Bend and loves it.
He and my mom moved there while I was in grad school. They both loved the Kettle Moraine area, the rolling hills, good parks, and fairly progressive community. My dad's cousins keep trying to get him to move to Florida, and his sister encourages him to move to Arizona. But he still likes West Bend, in the far Northwest suburbs of Milwaukee. The development kind of bothers my dad, and he HATES his congresscritter--Sensenbrenner (just mention him and watch my dad's blood pressure go up!!). But overall, he likes it--he says if you go north or west you're out in the country, rolling hills, dairy farms, hiking trails, open space. If you go south or east, you get to the city, with theatres, various restaurants, shopping. The best of both worlds.

32. I grew up in a small town in Wisconsin and went to UW-Madison for undergrad -
Madison is a beautiful city and very friendly. The west side is really nice. It's cold though with all the lakes. I left as soon as I graduated, but I still miss my runs through the arboretum. Good luck with your move!

36. Hudson
because you're right across the river from Minnesota, which everybody knows is the greatest state in the union.

(I keed, I keed) :D

Madison is pretty solid, IMHO. Very progressive, fairly decent economy. Plus it's got the added benefit of being not only a college town, but also the state capital, so there's a lot government employment nearby (one of the few areas of the economy set to grow in the next few years).

Plus, WI's cost of living is significantly less than NY's, too, and will probably stay that way for awhile, I'd guess.

Good luck with the search.
