I've managed to go 48 years without stitches...
Edited on Mon Feb-16-09 09:19 PM by RetroLounge
Today my son made it just over 10 years.

Playing with a tin can lid during arts and crafts, another kid roughhousing.

Lid, meet palm. 2 Gushers. Lots of blood, but only 2 Stitches.

My son was a trooper, even watched the doc stitch him up.

I think I was more shaken up... :scared:

1. Ouch! Glad your son's OK.
 I recently got my first stitches, after undergoing two surgeries for broken bones. When they removed the stitches and staples at the dr.'s office, I think my mom was more freaked out than I was - for me, the itching was so bad it was almost a relief to have stuff pulled out of my skin.

Anyway. I'm glad your boy is all right, and I hope neither of you have to have stitches any time soon! :hi:

2. Thanks
His sister got nauseous in the doctor's office. She's crashed out asleep.

He's watching TV like nothing happened.

8. Yeah, he's doing fine.
His biggest worry is not being able to write or play his violin this week.

6. No, but when they pulled the needle out
I turned away.

I know better... :scared:

Needles are why I'm not a junkie.

9. My son made it to two years.
Edited on Mon Feb-16-09 09:40 PM by NNadir
It was in the hand.

Predictably it happened when Mom was out leaving Dad in charge.

I just turned around for a second, and heard this crash of glass.

I was never so frightened in my life, even when my own life was in danger. I'm such a squeamish pig that I got my wife and we raced to the hospital and, um, I hate to say, she went into the ER with our doctor and held him down for the stitching.

He's fine.

I once had about 50 stitches in my head. I was 22, and quite near death. My son's three or four stitches were worse than that.

21. I'll bet. Oddly enough, my boy didn't cry. He just kept looking at the cut.
After the stitches though he was pissed...

It lasted about a week, although he did become very interested in looking at the stitches.

10. I went to the ER once with my Mother
to get a cut sewed up on my head. When the doctor started sewing, my Mother fainted dead away. She suddenly became the patient. LOL

11. My son played bonsai across the house, and landed on the corner of the dishwasher.
I got a call a hysterical call at work to meet at the ER. He was about 8 years old. Many stitches.

When the stitches came out, he pitched a fit. His Dr. said, "now you're a man". LOL!

But really, scared the piss outta me when I got that call. I imagined he put his eye out.

Sheesh! He had other accidents, and they gave me gray hair!

25. Oh god, I know. One time he thought he could walk on air or something. With a pencil in his mouth!
He walked off the couch, and the pencil poked a hole in the roof of his mouth. Do you have any idea how much that bleeds? Blood everywhere!

I had guests over at the time. Thank gawd. It was -20 at the time. We didn't even put on our shoes. I just wrapped him in a blanket and we scrambled strait to ER. I thought his breathing was obstructed. 'Bout gave me a heart attack!

I got questioned by CPS that night. God almighty, I was was so fucking scared. I thought the pencil went into his throat and blocked his ability to breathe. Thus why we didn't take time to put our shoes on. I thought he died and that caused the questions.

Whew!

17. Only ones I ever got were post-ingrown toenail surgery.
My stepbrother on the other hand... he had more by the age of 8 than most people do in their lives. He had SEVERE ADHD as a kid that we found out later was caused by a reaction to a naturally occuring chemical in some fruits. When my parents put him on a diet that avoided that particular chemical, within a week his teachers were calling home and asking if he was okay... because he HADN'T gotten into any fights or done anything stupid/dangerous. :P

26. I've lost count of how many stitches I've had in my 38 years.
Edited on Tue Feb-17-09 12:37 AM by Jamastiene
It's been a lot though. I'm constantly stepping through glass, cutting myself, and running into things. Metal loves my skin too. I was 9 when I got my first stitches. I can handle stitches just fine. Skin bleeding and all that is easy for me, because my nerves end before my skin. Internal pains are another story entirely though. Those hurt about 20 times worse than they should.

Hope your son gets well soon. Tell him it'll be cool when they take the stitches out...if they stitches make it the full 10 days? Is that how many days he got? That's how many days I usually had to try to leave them in. They never lasted that long though with me though. :P

28. I made it 6 months..
I had a very evil babysitter, and she was yanking at me to stop crying. Needless to say, after my arm broke, she dropped me in fright and my head hit the edge of a brick fireplace. Also needless to say, she never babysat for my parents again.
