So I finally sat thru the entire movie version of "The Valley of the Dolls" |
|
No wonder Jacqueline Susann walked out of the premiere - they really did butcher her book

Yeah. The book was more serious than the movie. But you gotta admit that flick is awesome camp.

4. That's saying alot to call the book 'more serious' than the movie |
|
the book was trash too but it was amazing trash that I most have read 20-30 times in my life.
I won't even bother seeing "Love Machine" movie because I figured they probably destroyed it as badly as Dolls

8. One of my favorite lines from Rowan and Martin's Laugh-in: |
|
"Work stopped on the set while filming the movie "The Love Machine" when two of the actors forgot their parts."

9. Well, it's been ages since I read the book |
|
I remember the novel being somewhat tame but that's probably because it centered around a generation before me, where sex outside of marriage was considered scandalous.
As for the film, I mostly remember the campiness and that awesome spangled suit that Susan Hayward wore. I also remember that she took that part because Judy Garland got fired and I think she kept her spangled suit.

3. Roger Ebert's finest work |

He wrote the screenplay to satirize how decadent Hollywood had gotten

Ebert wrote the sequel "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls."
Not to be confused with "Beneath the Valley of the Dolls."
And "Escape from the Valley of the Dolls."

6. Usually I would give up by the first time I saw they cast Lee Grant as Miriam Polar |
|
in the book Miriam was a very overweight unattractive woman. Lee Grant is hardly that
