Here is why you should not trust the phone book: |
|
Edited on Tue Feb-17-09 01:33 PM by crispini
I am in the phone book only as C (Mylastname) because, well, that's the way I wanted it. I figured, why make it any easier for people to find me? So, at 1:00 in the morning last night, awakened out of a sound sleep into a near-panic-attack by the RING RING RING of the phone (and I have an old-school analog phone by my bed, so that fucker is LOUD)... I get a call:
Caller: Hi, Cheryl?
Me, extraordinarily pissed off at having being awoken: There's no Cheryl here.
Caller: Isn't this Cheryl (Mylastname)?
Me: No, there are other people in the world who are named (Mylastname) besides Cheryl. Nobody of that name lives here. (Grrrrrrrrrrrr!)
At least he had the decency to apologize before hanging up, but I mean REALLY. A wrong number at 1:00 IN THE FUCKING MORNING and you FUCKING ARGUE WITH ME? :wtf: Dumbass!
Maybe I should get my number put back to unlisted. Not that I use it for much of anything, anyway. I should have known it wasn't important, all the important people call me on my cell phone.

1. You can't have it both ways |
|
If you'd listed your full first name, he probably wouldn't have called.

3. i would not call anyone at that time unless i were positive it was their number |
|
we had a second phone line when i was in high school and i had an extension in my room. the number for that phone was a digit or two off from a hardware store and i can't tell you how many times the phone rang at ungodly hours of the morning. at least those people didn't argue with me, though

6. Who calls a hardware store in the wee small hours? |
|
I can understand a friend calling, even by mistake.
It seems odd to want to talk to Lowes at 1am.

7. I would call a hardware store at 1 am |
|
IF I were awake... haha... because I would assume that their answering machine would be on and they would tell me what time they would open in the morning.

4. I called a wrong number at about that time once... |
|
my area had just added a second area code, so I had the right number, just the wrong prefix for it. I felt REALLY bad afterwards because it sounded like I'd woken the person up. :\

8. Ok, talk about EMBARASSING.. |
|
I was in Australia one time, and I had several Australian phone numbers, including my own, stored in my cell phone, because of course I didn't know my Australian cell number. I inadvertently gave the wrong number to my mother and she called one of my Aussie coworkers at an ungodly hour because she thought she was calling me-- and I would be up, because of the evil jet lag.
Intercontinental wrong number, hahahahaha.

10. You can actually have your number listed but not in the phone books |
|
I have it setup like that.
I'm the only person with my lastname so it makes it too easy to find me.
And perhaps I just don't want to be found.
