7. It would be if the GOP controlling the state legislature
could realize that the state is going to receive ~$1.7 billion from the stim package, which will fill all the budgetary holes we have right now.

9. We're in a drought.
It's raining now but unless we get tons of snow in the Sierra over the next month or so, we're kind of fucked. Actually, we're kind of fucked either way- relatively late, warm rain will mean lots of undergrowth and a really nasty fire season this summer/fall.

17. HAHA--I find them completely irresistable.
I'll sit mesmerized in front of the TV as long as they air the chase. When I moved back down here from NorCal a couple of years ago, I was SO HAPPY when I got to watch my first car chase after being gone for awhile. :7

Edited on Tue Feb-17-09 10:17 PM by Pushed To The Left
I told the people who answered for both of them that right wing talk radio doesn't run California..the people run California! The person who answered for Cox's office was very friendly. Right wing radio is pretty upset because it looks like Moldonado is getting close to voting for the budget.

34. Thanks,PTTL.
The CA State Senate is now on "lockdown".
The Dems brought their sleeping bags and
toothbrushes. The Repubs are pissed!

NO ONE leaves until they agree on a budget.

Steinberg should have done this three months
ago.

Every call to our legislature helps!

Thanks so much.

henceforth all films shall feature either Tom Cruise or Keanu Reeves. Or both. In every roll.

We thank you for your support.

(Small donations from the rest of the country shall end this sad state of affairs; give often, give deeply.)

In the first place, we have mason jars of the most excellent indoor bud imaginable in the freezer. And if I end up sleeping in my car, hell, it's CALIFORNIA. It doesn't get any better than this.

I can honestly say, no matter how much being broke and homeless sucks-- yes, I've been there-- I'd rather die in most of California than live in many of the other places I've lived in the U.S.

We'll manage. We've got California.

but man, it's already expensive enough' and now they're talking about adding .12 per gallon of gas, laying off thousands of state employees, and we're going to be getting I.O.U.'s for income tax checks (plus a lot of other crap)! I still don't understand how we got into this mess....

35. We will survive.
Despite our reputation for being soft slackers, Californians are survivors. It comes from living on faultlines and dealing with traffic the likes of which no one outside of New York can really appriciate. Things are going to be really rough for a while here, and many things which we have taken for granted in the Golden State are likely to pass away, some for good. But we will pull through, we did in the early 90's when the combination of quakes, floods, fires, mudslides and riots had many writing the epitaph for Los Angeles. San Francisco has been battered and pummelled by Earthquakes, one of which wiped much of the city off the face of the earth (1906) they rebuilt, and while I have never personally been to the "City by the Bay" it is hailed by both its residents and visitors as the jewel of our state.

We have seen ruin before in this state, looked it in the eye, and stared it down. We will do it again and be the better for it.

And maybe, just maybe, we will learn something from this mess and the next time we vote on ballot measures, they will include one that removes the supermajority requirement to pass a budget in the Legislature, instead of removing marriage rights.
