I HATE when my mother cancels last minute on LeftyKid. |
|
She's always been a bit of a flake, and I'm used to it, but he's only seven. He doesn't understand that he shouldn't take her behavior personally.
We were going to a museum today and he was really looking forward to showing her what he's learned and just to spending the day with her. We'll have fun by ourselves but he was very excited to have her along and I hate to see her do this to him. :(

2. Advice for what it's worth |
|
Don't let him see how much it bothers you and continue to be there for him yourself. Don't defend her but don't make a big deal about it either.
It sucks that kids have to learn about disappointment and flaky people but they do. What makes it easier for them is having someone they know they can depend on.
My ex was like that when we divorced - he let them down. I made sure I never did. They did okay, learned a hard lesson - I think in the end it was harder for me to see than them to take.

For obvious reasons, I don't want to post where my kid and I will be on the intertubes where any random crazy can read.

She's really missing out, isn't she? As the grandma of a 2 year old little guy, one of the best things I'm enjoying is HIS voyage of discovery.

7. I wonder if, in the future, you can tell him that "Grandma might join us if she can, |
|
but she might not be able to make it," and then leave it at that. If she cancels, then it's not so much of a flake-out situation for poor LeftyKid. :(

8. I did. But he was really excited about her going. |
|
She did make a verbal commitment to me, I double-checked Monday and again yesterday. But she has a long history of this kind of thing, so I'm not surprised, just concerned about his feelings. He loves her a lot and was really looking forward to showing off to her a bit.

I don't know why "adults" do stuff like that to kids.
