Why did I think the word "approbation" was a negative thing?
approbation – noun
1. approval; commendation.
2. official approval or sanction.
3. Obsolete. conclusive proof.

I always thought approbation was synonymous with condemnation, scorn, disapproval. Turns out I was exactly wrong.
