Cuz I have a crapload of important data vital to millions and I need to shove it into an orifice on the intertubes. Who should get my bidness?

1. GoDaddy been belly belly good, to me. |
|
Seriously, I use GoDaddy and love it. You can call 24x7 with even mundane simple questions and get through to a human who speaks English within a couple of minutes (even middle of the day busy periods). They know the product inside out and hook directly into your account to inspect your problem and then EXPLAIN how to fix it instead of just doing some voodoo on their end.
The reliability has been wonderful and the administration tools are easy to use once you figure them out (that's a bit of a learning curve, but it isn't rocket science). It is also very easy so scale up. For $9.99 you can register a domain with free hosting and e-mail, but the free hosting does have their ads at the top. I use Deluxe Hosting so the domains are free of ads.

2. Sounds good. I was looking at the "Economy Plan" |
|
The content used to be hosted at Earthlink. The owner/creator left Earthlink several years ago and the content (automotive info) has been missed by many. I now have an agreement to host the content elsewhere. I will call and ask if the Economy Plan or Deluxe plan have banner ads, because that would be bad as I intend to use my own Google ads to cover the cost.
Thanks for the information! :hi:

3. at the low end it's difficult to find a good hosting company |
|
to make matters worse many of them have an unerving habit of fluctuating in quality. In other words they can start good, but in 6 months they can go bad. I have heard mixed reviews about Go-Daddy. I work with one virtual private server account with them, and I can say at that level I am less than impressed with them (for technical reasons that are difficult to explain). I host a personal website with HostMonster and I have mixed feeling about them. They were very good at the start. Really tanked in the middle and are coming back in the end. I was considering switching to InMotionHosting (which had gotten very good reviews). Later on when I am at my home computer, I can post a link to a good webhosting review site (If you like).

It's a small, dedicated ISP that I've used for over five years now, and have never had any trouble. The owner used to post here occasionally back in 2004-- that's where I found out about them originally.
I believe the basic windows package is $12/month, but you can get cheaper Linux packages. They are very customer-friendly and more than willing to give you a hand with getting started.
Sure, they're not the big hosting monolith you get elsewhere, but reliability is worth it

11. I'm fond of MediaTemple, I'm gonna be signing up with them really soon. |
|
They're a little more expensive ($20 a month), but it's worth it.
