if someone on DU is stalking you? Following you around. Showing interest in threads you kick with a post, after disregarding them before hand? There's more that I don't want to go into. It won't help to Alert in this case because it may not be an obvious violation. It IS creepy, though.

1. Have you asked them to bugger off? |

A little public humiliation.
Reply to them in a thread where they've replied to you with "please leave me alone".
The person would quickly become the object of scorn here.

2. You could ask a moderator. |
|
Block that user, hide their posts, and I think the moderators will be able to tell you more.
Eventually they'll go away or be banned.
Just email a mod.

And it may come to that. I hate to do it. In four years, I've only put one other poster on Ignore. That one was well worth it, however.

16. I think that's a good plan. Although you could try regular ignore |

before going with the moderator imposed ignore.

3. challenge them to a back alley knife fight |
|
that'll work for most people, but if they actually show enthusiasm for the idea, pursue other options

8. I would certainly alert on whoever... |

Stalking is against the rules.
Let the mods or Admins decide.
You should not have to deal with this mess...

9. You could simply ignore that person |
|
Responding to a thread that you've previously responded to doesn't much sound like stalking, to me. Unless the "more" that you've declined to explain is far more serious, I'd say you're just noticing coincidental posting.
On the other hand, you could respond to every thread with a post that repeats exactly what they posted - that could get pretty funny. Or, PM a mod for the forum in which this most commonly occurs and ask them to look at it...

is just history. We were on good terms at one time about two years ago. This has just started up. I COULD be flattered that my posting is evidently inspirational enough to draw her out. But, I don't think that way.
I'm generally tender hearted. But some people just need to back off.
I might try the parrot thing tho

I'd definitely alert on this person, to make sure the mods know about it.

12. "Alert" helps, even if it's not an obvious violation. |
|
The Mods are people. They have BRAINS, and they know to be on the lookout for "patterns of behavior" from people who have a habit of working the system without ever committing a SINGLE 'obvious violation'
Alert them to your concerns, then 'alert' on every post which concerns you.
If your concerns are valid, the Mods will eventually arrive at the same conclusion and take appropriate action..
Sometimes it takes awhile, but it does happen.

The mods do a great job. Maybe it isn't stalking so much as it is like having a piece of toilet paper stuck to your shoe. No matter how far down in the thread list I go, as soon as I post, there she is, butting in. No interest whatsoever until I make the first reply post. Trailing toilet paper. Ignore is probably going to be the end result, if I can't work around it. Being toilet paper is not against the rules.

14. Don't start a thread about it |
|
The stalker is probably just trying to get under your skin.
This thread shows him/her that their obnoxious behavior is working.

The ignore function is your friend.
Adding someone to that list doesn't have to be permanent. You might find that the issue resolves itself after they have been ignored for a month or so.
