So --- I gave my chihuahua a steak bone last night
Edited on Fri Feb-20-09 11:37 AM by QueenOfCalifornia
I grilled a nice NY strip and my chihuahua is a beggar from hell... (doesn't help that she always wins the begging game :) ) So I left a nice amount of meat on the bone and gave it to her... she acted like we were all going to take it from her - she ran under the coffee table with it and kept looking at me with this "don't fuck with me" look. Then the cat, who had zero interest in the bone, dared to pass by the coffee table... the beast growled, a low menacing growl... The cat was unfazed... Every time I got up to go to the kitchen or bathroom Tiki ran to defend her bone.

She has had lots of bones and never acted like this until last night. It was soooooo funny.

Tiki... the beast from under the table:

1. Awww... She's an adorable dog.
:)

That's hillarious. She's a victorious hunter defending her kill from rivals and scavengers.

2. I have a Chihuahua that size, but whenever
I give her a bone, my Rottweiler takes it away from her. That's one dog she won't mess with.

5. I gave my 17yr old dog a beef rib bone for the first time
We had never fed our dogs a bone for fear of them getting a piece stuck in their digestive track. I made a standing rib roast one day and usually I save the bones for myself because I like to gnaw on them, but I had an extra and threw it to the dog. I figured the bone is so large and she is so old she would never be able to chew a chunk off.

At first she thought she could just munch it down and was quickly frustrated. It was kind of entertaining watching her learn how to chew on a bone at her age. She worked on it for hours non-stop.
