8. but you pretty much have too once you open it
If you just leave it out all the time it gets that fermenty taste that kinda overwhelms the taste of whatever you put it on...like, "This hamburger would taste really good but the ketchup has that fermenty taste to it"... To tell the truth, I don't care for ketchup all that much. My Dad, however, loves it...puts in on chicken, even filet mignon! To me ketchup should be a condiment, not a main course!

I dated a woman once who did not refrigerate her ketchup and it was OK, but I prefer refrigeration.

15. Diners and restaurants leave it out on the table
And I have had no problem with it. But I always have refrigerated it at home. Guess I don't want the other condiments to get lonely. :D

Ketchup at home can get pretty funky. At least in my experience as a single person who doesn't put it on everything

37. True
I don't take chances with tomato-based products. The food poisoning potential can be quite serious. The vinegar is supposed to stave that off to a degree, but why take chances?

16. Yeah. We keep all condiments refrigerated, except for honey.
I don't eat ketchup on anything but hot dogs, though, and even then, I only want the vaguest hint of a smear. One drop of ketchup, spread thin over the hot dog, and then lots of good mustard and chili.

:hi:

38. Iput honey in the fridge cuz I'm afraid it would attract bugs in my storage shelf.
Makes it hard to smear around, of course, but I don't use that much of it.

40. Bugs don't like the smell of catnip. But a catnip teabag. or other small amount
of catnip in each cupboard, and the bugs will stay away.

It says for best results, refrigerate after opening.

I always refrigerated mine, but my husband prefers not to. So we don't, and now I like it room temp.

42. I'd think it would mold, or worse, if you didn't.
Yeah, I wish it could be hot when I put it on my Boca burgers, but it's more important that it be germ-free.

If I think about it in time, I'll set it out a little bit before cooking, to try to get it up to room temp. But I usually don't think about it until it's too late.
