THE WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW IS NOW IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM THIS MORNING TO 7 PM EST THIS EVENING.

SNOW WILL SPREAD ACROSS THE AREA THROUGH THE LATE MORNING HOURS. THE SNOW WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE AFTERNOON... BEFORE TAPERING OFF DURING THE EVENING. THIS SNOWFALL WILL BE HEAVY AT TIMES... WITH RATES UP TO TWO INCHES PER HOUR. IN ADDITION... SOUTHEAST WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 15 TO 20 MPH... RESULTING IN SOME BLOWING OF THE SNOW. STORM TOTAL SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF 4 TO 6 INCHES IS EXPECTED BY THIS EVENING.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW ARE FORECAST THAT WILL MAKE TRAVEL DANGEROUS. ONLY TRAVEL IN AN EMERGENCY. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL... KEEP AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT... FOOD... AND WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY.

WITH SNOWFALL RATES UP TO TWO INCHES PER HOUR OCCURRING AT TIMES. THIS RAPID SNOW ACCUMULATION WILL LEAD TO QUICKLY DETERIORATING ROAD CONDITIONS DURING THE DAY. THE SNOW SHOULD WILL COME TO AN ABRUPT END BY EARLY EVENING... WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE SAGINAW VALLEY AND THUMB WHERE THE SNOW MAY LINGER THROUGHOUT THE EVENING. OVERALL... 4 TO 6 INCHES OF SNOW IS EXPECTED OVER A SIX HOUR PERIOD TODAY. ADDITIONAL ACCUMULATION THROUGH THE EVENING MAY LEAD TO SOME LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS UP TO 8 INCHES ACROSS THE SAGINAW VALLEY AND THUMB REGION.

3. Right now it's the calm before the storm
But it's coming. That's okay -- I planned a day at home anyway. Making a big pot of chili and getting ready for my trip to Miami!

The snow is good for the lakes. Just keep remembering that as you shovel.

10. I keep remembering 'this will be a beautiful spring' with all the meltoff
same thing last yr..beautiful flowers, wonderful spring and garden. no complaints when the snow turns into liquid gold. :)

4. I was wondering where it was. I expected to wake up to snow again this morning.
I guess it's moving slower than expected. Maybe I should go to the grocery store now. :scared:

That's the same Alberta Clipper that hit Minnesota yesterday afternoon around rush hour. Looks like it's picked up some moisture over the lake, and you're going to get dumped on.

We got 3" in Minneapolis, but that was before it crossed Lake Michigan. At least it's on the weekend...

14. It's snowing cats and dogs here in Detroit
We went down for the Polar Bear jump in the Detroit River at the Roostertail this morning. Just as the "swimmers" cam out on the dock,, it started snowing. Poor folks.
