So begins my Saturday night Jazz program of my own making since Minnesota Public Radio cut their show.

What is everyone else doing tonight?

36. I wish I could. If that were possible, I would be sending food to ThomCat at
least once a week.

It turned out OK. I think my oven is about to die on me, things are not coming out quite right. It was a Weight Watchers recipe and it has a nice taste. Dried cherries and slivered almonds in a pound cake like cake, with cinnamon and allspice in the batter.

I think it overbaked due to my oven's issues

44. update, it turned out pretty good, although I overbaked it a bit. I think my
oven is officially on the decline.

I found it in one of my Weight Watcher cook books and since I cut it into small servings for ease of serving, it worked out to 2 points per slice, maximum.

My friends liked it.

It's only 6:00, and Mr. LIW just got home from band practice.
He's helping our daughter with her bike.

We'll just hang out tonight like usual. My arm feels pretty good today, so maybe we'll play darts later.

8. I sooo love Diana Krall. By all that is holy, what a voice she has!
I melt when I hear it, and I would willingly be her love slave.

Cannonball Adderly is fucking amazing, too, but he has to pay if he wants me to slave for him.

I also love her voice, it is so incredibly sexy.

I may throw some Madeleine Peyroux on later too.

37. It simply is not fair that Diana Krall
Edited on Sun Feb-22-09 02:25 AM by FKA MNChimpH8R
should look, sing, and play as well as she does. This woman hit the genetic jackpot like few ever have. According to a couple of friends who are much more seriously knowledgeable about jazz than I, she's a world class pianist, and even I know that if someone studied with Tommy Flanagan some serious initial chops were involved.

But I mean, REALLY....

BTW one of the aforementioned friends played for me a couple of weeks ago a wonderful CD by a remarkably talented young woman named Melody Gardot (sp?) that is well worth checking out.

Almost forgot the incredible Hiromi (Uehara), Japanese born, Berklee educated cross of Bill Evans and Keith Emerson. Chops that have to be heard to be believed, and she uses a Nord Lead synth on stage on top of the Yamaha grand. She can also be as lyrical and lush as it gets. She is flat out amazing. She doesn't sing, though. :)

11. I just got home from having indian food and grocery shopping.
I am watching Unearthing Ancient Secrets on the Science Channel - wow - I am such a dork sometimes

I had a long day today - drove 2 hours each way to pick little MB up at camp, then she ended up wanting to spend the night at her grandparents house . I feel like a chauffer today

I would rather be listening to some Cannonball Adderley and sipping whiskey though :pals:

El Rey Theater in Albuquerque.... I actually know Tommy slightly; (mutual friends).....super-nice guy, and have had the incredible honor of playing a few songs with him at a gig several ( probably more like at least 10 ) years ago. Hoping to get a chance to say hi tonight....Out the door now; show starts at 8 ...

38. Holy shit --what an incredible show-
got to visit just for a minute with Tommy . He actually didn't remember me till I reminded him of a couple of the people we knew and what instrument I play, but it was that kind of night; a woman I've apparently gone out with a couple of times came up to me and I didn't (and still don't) remember her even after she told me her name. Actually got to talk with Keith the sax player a little more than with Tommy. Glad to see other people on DU are familiar with his music. BTW, a packed house at the El Rey ( holds a few hundred).

I was planning on seeing Sophie Milman here in town at a Jazz Club but she cancelled the show due to sickness...

but still sorry a show you were looking forward to was canceled. Based on your obvious outstanding musical taste as evidenced by knowing of Tommy Castro, I'll assume Ms.Milman is an artist very much worth seeing.

41. A whole lot of tubes...
A VTL S-400 Power Amp and a VTL TL 7.5 Series 2 Line Stage Pre-Amp

Bowers and Wilkins 802Ds

A VPI Aries 3, 10.5i Tonearm and a Lyra Helikon cartridge with a BAT VKP10 Phono Amp, I also have a Tubed Bellari Phono Amp with a USB output to record the vinyl to digital format.

I use a Mac Pro as my music server plugged into a Benchmark DAC 1 USB

I have a Rotel Tuner and CD Player as well, but the CD player almost gets no use.
