3. You need to expand your horizons beyond the crap
played on commercial radio. Eric Sardinas is a great Blues-Rock type guitar player. He toured with Steve Vai a few years ago and Vai was reportedly in awe of Sardinas. www.ericsardinas.com

6. A "fast guitar" player from The Netherlands
Vai appeared at the first Crossroads Guitar festival, which Eric Clapton does annually, and wowed the audience.
Eric Clapton is a guitar player/singer of some note from Great Britain who has played with many bands and has been around since the '60's. I love guitar music, as I was raised on it, and have a great deal of respect for guitar players who can keep audiences enthralled with their riffs.
