its a rigged game. much like the investment bankers. other interests take precedence...

17. They just choose by different standards than fans, which is the whole purpose.

The fans choice is always easy to see--just look at the box office receipts. The Academy is what the industry insiders think is best--what actors recognize as the best acting, what directors recognize as the best directing. Obviously they have a different perspective than the fans. The reason the Academy gives out awards is to reward those who make films the industry understands but that the general public might not grasp. Yeah, sometimes that's related to the marketability of a film, since moviemaking is a business.

People get all worked up when their favorite films don't win, like it's a playoff system and there is only one definition of winning. The purpose of the Academy is to offer an alternative type of recognition to simple box office success. It's an award of peers, not fans.

It's not a movie title. I just haven't seen any new films this year. I miss good cable. Basic cable makes you long for death...or just go online, which is where I seem to live. I love movies.

I was grabbed by the story from the start and the cinematography was brilliant with amazing shots of India that gave you a sense of life

31. Maybe not the best, but the 2 movies I enjoyed the most were Iron Man and Rocknrolla.

At least for movies that came out this year. The best movie I saw all year was "Clean, Shaven", but that's an older movie from '93 with Peter Greene as a schizophrenic trying to get his daughter back. You will never see a movie that uses sounds more effectively than this flick, and Peter Greene is excellent in it. One of the best movies I've ever seen.
