Is "Potomac" really hard to pronounce?
To me, I've lived near the Potomac River most of my life so I've never had any trouble. But everytime I order my meds from the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, they stumble upon the address I have it sent to (North Potomac). Maybe its a midwest thing. Dunno. Its just weird.

'cause that's what North Potomac REALLY is.......

What do they do, spell it Patowmic?

19. maybe thats it
I've always heard it as almost Pa-TO-mac though. Could be a region pronounciation though. You are a carpetbagger remember?

4. What is the root of the word? Anybody know? I thought either it was the name of an Indian tribe
or derived from the Greek word 'Potamus', which means 'river'.

Anybody know?

9. Try getting people to pronounce Ypsilanti correctly
Potomac is a piece of cake next to that. And there are some, too, who are convinced that Ann Arbor is Ann Harbor.

I guess if you don't hear Potomac every day, it can be tough. Not to this midwesterner but maybe to others.

10. People had that problem with our "El Camino Real"
they would say the last word as "Real" when you say "Ree-Al"

It's the Spanish translation of "The King's Highway" like they have back east.
