I have to start saying 'have a nice day' |
or some other pleasantry. I am at an entry level job where I am being evaluated on this. It feels kinda forced when you have to say that on every single phone call, but if I don't I could lose the job.

8. THAT is another story... |
I have to sell extra stuff, in my job too. Sometimes I do it in such a way the customer actually laughs at me. ;-)

13. Sometimes, I say it in such a way... |
customers will say, "You're good!" And then they giggle. Then I laugh, too. We all have a good laugh.
Hey... there are ways to get through the day easier! lol

11. I was supposed to do that too when I was working for Comcast. I never did. |
Saying "Have a nice day" or some variation thereof comes naturally to me though. I usually say "Have a great day/evening/night."

and other times it doesn't. As soon as I solve the customer's problem they usually want to get off the phone right away. BUT I have to summarize the call, offer them a ticket number, ask if they need help with anything else, and offer a pleasantry. That's a lot to say as they are hanging up the phone.

2. George Carlin routine: "Now the burden's on me. I have to go out and have a nice day!" |
I think he followed that up with something like "Well FUCK YOU!! What if I don't WANT to have a nice day? Did you think of that?"

6. Call center work sucks! |
One I once worked for made us answer the phone with "It's a great day at (company name)." We were a little call center with several clients and there were always snickers in the background when we got a call for that company

9. I can see that there have to be guidelines |
but when the pleasantry shouldn't be more important than solving the customer's issue.
