So I am try to catch the little mouse guys who are pooping all over my house and
most particularly on my dishes and silverware.

I put out a couple of catch and release traps but I am a little bit concerned. With 2 and a half plus feet of snow surrounding me, where the heck do I release these guys? (Not that I have caught any yet, and it's been 2 days already. x()

3. Yeah, I've got an older one too - but we have two fast females that get the mice!

4. I think you are starting to get it.
Snap traps, baited with peanut butter and chocolate (and/or bacon).

Why is it ok for a cat to kill pests, but not use a fast killing trap?

5. Snap traps can break a cat's paw and even though my guys don't catch the mice they
are still stalking them. Those cupboards where the mice hang out are easy for kittehs to visit too. :(

6. can you tie them shut with some string or duct tape?
I have set traps under plastic milk crates or other objects like that so the cat can't reach.

10. I might have to do that. The trick will be making sure the kids close them up correctly after
getting dishes out.

8. We are using this stuff:

in our house in Maine. It is made of fox pee and scares the critters out of the house. We had what sounded like an army of mice in the walls and the attic. We used this stuff 2 weeks ago and cannot hear them any more. Yahoo!!

We did not want to use snap traps or poison because we didn't want anything that could hurt our dachshunds. I actually can't believe it actually works.

20. I don't know if you can buy it in a store.
We got ours by going to the website.

We are usually in Maine only on the weekends, but Mr. Doggie is up there now to ski on that ginormous snow dump you got up there. It took him a couple of hours last night to dig out the front porch and the path to the propane tanks. He skied at Sunday River for a while today and then came back to shovel the roof. It sounds like it is crazy up there!

22. Most pest-control places should sell that sort of thing.
My mother got bobcat urine from a local pest-control company as a DIY method of chasing squirrels out of her attic a few years back.

9. Just drive a few blocks away and release them
They will find someone's garage to live in and eventually they will move into their attic or basement.

If you're worried they might get trapped or poisoned, find a commercial parking garage and release them there.

13. I thought about taking a cardboard box, cutting a "door" in it and stuffing it with newspaper and
leaving it down the road at the edge of the woods as my dumping spot.

I also threatened to move them in with the family that took over our mailbox. LOL

14. I doubt they would ever use it
It's a pretty simple trick for them to get under a garage door, so that would be their first choice more than likely.

17. Take them to a dumpster area behind a shopping center. They can
crawl under the dumpsters or even in the dumpster. That way they get shelter and some food.

15. Try either blue cheese dressing or feta cheese in your traps. They're
smelly enough to attract the mice. I've even used a combination of peanut butter and blue cheese dressing. Works like a charm.

16. Plug up any holes with steel wool
Edited on Tue Feb-24-09 02:56 PM by supernova
They hate that because they can't chew through it.

I did that to the gaping hole in my floor left after the plumber relocated my new water heater. The little varmints were taking refuge in a little well (made by the failing water heater) under my sink. I plugged everything up with coarse steel wool, then set it down with HEAVY extra piece of corian I had from an old bathroom remodel.

This I hope will hold until I can arrange to have the new kitchen floor put in.

Also, wash all counter and shelf surfaces with clorox. They hate that too.

18. Kind of off topic, but when we lived in the south in an apartment, I cleaned
the counters and cabinets with straight ammonia. We never got roaches from our neighbors that way.
