A friend and I are coming to Baltimore/Washington April 11-14
Edited on Tue Feb-24-09 02:27 PM by 5thGenDemocrat
My friend Annie's dad is burined at Arlington (as is her uncle) and she's never seen his grave. His birthday was April 11, so it seems as good a time as any to visit.
My dad (whose birthday was April 10, coincidentally) and mom were married in Baltimore in 1951 while dad was stationed at Fort Holabird with the CIC. They honeymooned at Ocean City for one night before he shipped out for what he thought would be Korea, but turned out to be downtown Tokyo (nice break, that).
Mom thought Baltimore was wonderful and always spoke highly of it. I've never been to Baltimore -- except to fly into BWI a couple of times -- and want to see what mom was raving about.
I was stationed at Fort Monroe, Virginia (at Hampton, not all that far from Washington) in 1974 and 1975 and want to head down there before they close the base in 2011.
I want to go to the ballgames at Baltimore (v Tampa Bay, April 13) and the home opener at Washington on April 14 (v Philadelphia).
And I've never been to Delaware, so there's that.
Anyhow, Annie and I have lots of places to go over nine or ten days. What can you insiders tell us about Baltimore or Washington -- or Delaware, for that matter -- and cheap places to stay and good stuff to eat (difficulty: neither Annie nor I touch shellfish and only rarely eat seafood, though I want to eat a crab cake for the first time in my life).
We don't head out for about 45 days yet, so I'll take good notes. Feel free to ask questions about our itinerary.
John
And I'll answer any questions about Saginaw, Michigan that you might have. Thanks to all.

ON EDIT: On our return leg, we're heading from Fort Monroe through Richmond and west on US Route 60 through West Virginia and on to Louisville, then north through Indiana. If any DUers along that line might want to contribute to the thread, that would be awesome. Y'all are fount of information and we appreciate it. We surely do.

2. I'm sorry I missed this earlier
Well the cheaper places to stay would be in the burbs of DC or Baltimore. Both areas have lots of public transportation so that will be helpful. You are going to be coming around the tail end of the Cherry Blossom Festival in DC..
http://nationalcherryblossomfestival.org/cms/index.php?id=390 So you may want to try to catch some of that. It also means DC will be CROWDED..The festival is one of the big events here. The Nats home opener MIGHT be difficult to get into, usually the bigwigs snatch up all the tickets for opening day and if Obama throws out the first pitch..well...
Lots of good places to eat. Just about any type of ethnic food. If you want good crabcake I would recommend Phillips Seafood in either DC or Baltimore (there's a nice one in Baltimore's inner Harbor).
Thats just a few things off the top of my head. Be glad to answer any specifics you have.:)

3. Jeebus, Snyder! I've had a running thread in the MD forum about restaurants that
you have never posted in!
