Is your first name on your birth certificate the name that you go by?
Now it is mostly, but in school I went by a shortened version of my name. The only people who call me that now are my friends from that era, I mostly go by the name on my birth certificate now.

11. In a manner of speaking.
My legal name is Catherine, but people only rarely call me that. In every day life, I go by Cathy, which is clearly a derivative nickname of Catherine.

13. Yes, and it's a long name, but it has no good nicknames.
I hated it as a kid, but I'm ok with it now.

18. Yes
for the last 45 years.

When my parents named me, my mother really wanted to name me the diminutive form of my name, but she thought it wasn't a "real" name. Nonetheless, that is the name I went by until I graduated from high school.

When I applied for college, I used my real name, and have ever since. My family and people who knew me when I was young still call me by my nickname.

my mom is so anti-nickname that I would still be hearing it if I tried to shorten my name as a child.

25. Well, it's like this.
On the day I was born the nurses all gathered around. They stared in wide wonder at the joy they found. The head nurse stepped up and said "leave this one alone." She could tell right away that I was bad to the bone. B-b-b-b-bad. Bad to the bone.

I guess the concept of a self-fulfilling prophecy never occurred to her.

26. no not really...i go by my middle name
a lot of people called me my first name when i was in school though and i always liked that name actually. but it was confusing for others to know what to call me so i don't even mention the first name anymore.

it wasn't confusing to me to be called by both names, the names were both common anyway.

28. No, and I'm glad.
My first name is misspelled and it changes the pronunciation completely. It's annoying. I'm glad I go by one of my middle names, but even that was not a common spelling at the time and I had to tell people how it was supposed to be spelled or pronounced.
