My son was just involved in a high speed chase
Edited on Wed Feb-25-09 09:42 AM by SoCalDem
He was on his way to work, and saw a car swerve from their lane, hit another car, which hit an SUV that overturned, and hit another car..He was "in it" but miraculously was untouched (whew!)...

He started to pull over to see if the roll-over needed help, when he saw the car that STARTED the whole mess, peel out and started to speed off, so my son got back on the road, called 911, and followed the car, as it sped off.. he could not catch it, because the person was going really fast, but he stayed on the phone with the 911 person, until they got a chopper in the air..(police were enroute, because other people stopped and called).. The car has front end damage, and he got a partial plate number..

He'll be late to work, but I guess he has a good excuse:)

It's nice to know he listened to all our lectures about getting involved, and NEVER ignoring any accident they see.. A guy ran a light once and broadsided my car, and NO ONE stayed around until the cops came..

There we were..my son (then 4) and I (a week from having my 2nd baby)..in a ditch..and everyone just drove right by...

2. That's scary!
I'm glad your son's car wasn't hit!
It sounds like the person was fleeing the damage (s)he had just caused, rather than speeding and hitting cars while fleeing a crime.
I hate hearing about high speed chases on the radio/tv since they often end in some innocent driver getting killed in an intersection.
If the police are chasing a murderer, maybe it's justifiable, but a stolen vehicle doesn't matter as much as a life. A car chase sometimes turns a car thief into a murderer.

3. yes..he was fleeing..
my son called it a high speed chase, because he was chasing the speeder:)..

I'm so glad he was not involved.. he's still recovering from spinal surgery from a car accident in 2007, and getting hurt again would not be a good thing at all...

Of course, now he will probably end up involved in court, but you gotta do what you gotta do :)

5. People that don't "get involved" suck*.
May be an unpopular opinion, but the witness that doesn't stick around or the person that doesn't attempt to safely follow and report a hit and run crim sucks.

*This of course doesn't apply to folks that don't "get involved" because a Gotti or Tony Montana lives next door. No need for life or death stuff in most folks cases.
