I need some dog advice: We're pretty easy going with Guinness |

(beagle shepherd mix) and Pooka (Pom mix) I do have one concern, though. When we come home, they jump up and scratch at the door as soon as we step on the porch. Any suggestions on getting them to stop?
Alternatively; any suggestions on a dog proof door finish?

1. My dogs used to do that |

can they see you from the door? If so, then tell them "Down down down" and when all 8 paws are on the ground, start to open the door & say "good dogs, good dogs". If the paws go up again, stop what you're doing & say "no. Down down down." Takes a few days, but they'll soon learn that paws on the floor with tails wagging gets the door open faster than jumping up & scratching it.

2. Worth a try - first I'll have to teach them "down!" |

3. that was the easy part |

my dogs loved to jump on me, so when they did, i'd say "no" & turn away from them. if they stayed 4 on the floor, so to speak, I said "good dogs" & gave them treats. :)
