So, if your laptop had been unserviceable, it's usefulness could be likened to a paperweight.

Sometimes, for a desktop computer (the box, not the monitor or keyboard", the term used is "brick"; verb or noun, as in "Crap, I was trying to debug the CMOS with a soldering iron, but I think I just bricked it", or "Sorry, that you thought a soldering iron was the way to fix your expensive box of computer parts, but you were wrong and now it's a brick".

Or a big paperweight!
