One reason to love Lent:

I love these gigantic fried fish sandwiches. The fish is usually twice the size of the bun, and when you add ketchup, cheese and pickles, well, you're this close to heaven. Every fire hall and Catholic church around here has a fish fry, so for six glorious weeks I know what's for dinner on Friday night.:9

2. There was a Jewish holiday I loved when I lived in FL
I'd get all the cakes, breads, and such they had in their house. Sometimes actual plates! :D

:hi:

4. It's weird because I rarely eat something like this when it's not Lent.
But once Ash Wednesday rolls around, I start really jones-ing for a fish sandwich. Add some decent fries and a side of coleslaw - oh baby!

9. You haven't lived till you've had a fish sandwich from the Strip.
It's almost worth the drive into the city!

6. What's ironic about it...
Is that the whole "no meat on Friday" thing is meant to be a sacrifice. I'm sorry, but the meals that most self-avowed staunch Catholics eat on Friday nowadays are FAR from any kind of sacrifice.

It's just another sign of their hypocrisy....

19. Also I read somewhere that the whole fish on Friday thing started...
because the Pope at the time was the brother of a fisherman, who was suffering economic problems.

20. I've never heard that before....
but with the Catholic church, it wouldn't surprise me. These ARE the people that would tell grieving families that their deceased loved one was in Purgatory, and if they wanted him or her to go to heaven, they would have to pray and DONATE!!!!

consisting of "two guys from Texas". You and GOPisEvil made an impression on her!
