I'm sorry Whedon fans (and I count myself among you), but Dollhouse is an unmitigated disaster.

What a fucking awful episode tonight. Looked like it was written by an intern.

And the first three episodes weren't exactly brilliant either.

None of the trademark Whedon wit, Zero character development, teeth-clenchingly bad dialogue, and recycled Charlie's Angels or Starsky and Hutch story plots.

Joss, Joss, Joss... Make it stop. Please.

Somebody give me some Buffy re-runs to wash the taste out of my brain.

2. I'd be interested in hearing what you think after watching tonights episode.
Tonight was worse than any episode of Fringe I've seen so far.

Strikingly bad tonight.

3. Haven't watched it since the first one...
and if the pilot sucks, then the rest can't be too good. I got the impression that the whole point of this exercise was to simply to show her acting range without benefit of plot, plan or character.

I assume that at some point she starts to get her memories back and the conflict starts, but it's too late now.

Wheedon, you know better than this.

4. Well, it's kind of like all-Wolfram-and-Hart, in a way.
I think when you set your entire story in the lair of the bad guys and completely squash your two good guys, that's kind of inevitable.

Also, he's letting the monster-of-the-week (adventure of the week?) storylines get in the way of what's going to be interesting when she starts to figure out what's going on, which is about 5% of the story now. Also, you're right, it's definitely not bringing the wit right now.

I don't know, I'll give it some time, but we'll see.

5. Read the Eliza Dushku interview at the Onion AV Club.
Apparently Fox meddled with Whedon and he ended up reshooting the pilot. Dushku says the show doesn't really take off until Episode 6, and that all the episodes after that are classic Whedon.

So, wait it out for a couple weeks and then see what happens.

6. Oh I will, but that episode last night...
Whedon should be ashamed to have his name associated with that in any way.

I'm a bit skeptical that this can be saved, but I'll be watching.

7. I certainly don't think it's as good as he is capable of
but I don't think it's quite the unmitigated disaster.

I did think that there was some incredibly lazy filmwork last night. It was painful.

I've never actually been convinced that Dushku had that much talent. I haven't had my mind changed yet, but I'm hanging in there for at least awhile longer.

9. The writing and dialogue last night... guh.
The fact is that Dushku's acting SHOULD be the weakest part of the show... and right now, it's totally not.

Which tells you just how bad the overall show is at this point.

10. I'm going to give it some more time, but you're right
Last night's episode was terrible, but even worse than the writing and acting was the fact that (imo) the episode was boring. Too bad I don't have one of those memory-eraser machines like they do on the show--looks like a few episodes of Firefly will have to suffice.
