Is it true? Lemon Pledge is a good spider repellant, that is?

I just saw a big, ugly ass spider in my carport. I really don't want to kill it (and his/her many friends, I'm sure) but I fear that if it gets too close to me or finds the way into my house, it's going to be him or me.

If it is true, I'm installing a Lemon Pledge invisible fence around my property.

1. I've never heard of that before.

I know Carolina Wolf Spiders eat other spiders, including venomous ones. Plus, they are big enough that you won't want to kill them unless you like scrubbing large stains and burying large 8 legged corpses.

And a copper barrier keeps slugs out of a garden, or so they say. Something to do with copper reacting with the slug's nastiness and melting it on contact. :shrug:

And, I have absolutely no problem handling crickets, superworms (think giant nasty mealworms that BITE), waxworm grubs, etc, because I feed those to my lizards. Meanwhile, I'm scared to death of camel crickets, because they remind me of spiders that jump and attack you.

9. Yes! My best friend uses it on black widows under his house.

It's a quick-dry wax and basically freezes them in their place, taking them out of the game for good.

I wouldn't normally suggest anyone do this, but he has three very curious young, bitable boys.

in Fort Myers. The parking lot hadn't been paved yet, and I was just standing by the car unloading the trunk, and suddenly I realized that fire ants were biting my feet! That was special.

26. We had our house tented and fumigated last May (for termites)

and since then I have not seen a single spider in the house, other than the inevitable daddy longlegs stuck in the dry bathtub. The fumigation kills anything that is alive in the building, so we had a spider-free summer last year and so far this year. I'm sure they will return eventually but it's nice not to wake up to an ugly black spider on the wall now and then. It's expensive and a huge hassle (you have to remove many items and completely vacate the house for 3 to 5 days) but it's like starting over with a brand-new, bug-free house.

I'm always finding them in my garage (and often the house) and if you startle them, they can jump over six feet. I'm not sure what kind they are, but they're brown and fuzzy and some are easily six inches across.

Once again, I have to recommend a Dyson--with an 18' reach on that attachments hose and suction so strong, you only have to get within a couple feet of a bug and it's history. By the time you turn the thing off, the spiders are amazingly compact and quite dead, of course, so you're not going to be able to dump it into a new habitat, but I figure if they're invading my space, it's their karma.

I do know that orange peel is supposed to repel roaches, so maybe if you sprayed that orange oil cleaner as a barrier it would repel critters for a while.

38. Osage oranges are supposed to repel them.

I gathered a basket of them a couple of years ago and put them in the rafters and corners where I have seen spiders.

I didn't really notice much improvement though. They grow wild here.

47. Don't know about using Pledge, but this past summer used spray foam carpet cleaner

Ants! Ants were everywhere, trying to climb all over the blanket at the river beach.
All we had was some cheap spray foam carpet cleaner (we had brought the trailer to the river for a 4th of July all-dayer)
Sprayed the foam around the blanket edge.
Every time ants met that spray line, even after it dried and "disappeared", they quickly turned and ran the other way.
The effect lasted all day.

They creep me out sooo baaad! I don't want to kill them, I just want them to not be in my home. Here I seem to have a spider-free home where I used to live in places where spiders liked to come in, way too much!

I think spraying the windowsills and doorways and then along the walls near entry ways might work. whether it's Lemon Pledge or something else that works better.

My Trinny eats spiders. Though the first time she decides she wants kisses and has a wiggly spider leg sticking out of her mouth, you might decide you're better off with the spiders.
