2. This is the appropriate Forum to poll this question.
The topic is being discussed elsewhere but there is no flame war going on. I take exception to your characterization.

6. It's already been a requirement in my community for many years
but I'm trying to get an idea for how common and widespread it is. That's all. I don't believe it is a new concept, but what better place to find out than in the Lounge where all the teens and parents of a Nationwide message board are hanging out on a Sunday afternoon.

Thats why I am shocked at how people are reacting to Kerry's education proposals.

11. Really? You're in HS?
Let me be the first to commend you for taking the time to care about what bush and his cohorts have done to the country.

Seriously... I am impressed and hope that when my kid is HS age they will have the smarts to pay attention and become involved!

Of course I have been such a raging lunatic about bush for the last 4 years that they will probably avoid politics like the plague later in life :(

4. Other
If my children went to high school and were not home schooled, they would have a community service requirement. Instead, we try to encourage them to volunteer because it's the right thing to do, rather than because the state is going to make them.

15. That's nice to know that service already performed can be applied
toward this credit.
