Edited on Tue Mar-17-09 01:04 PM by Symarip

Unlike Billy Corgan, when I used to play live gigs I didn't go off on 20 minute guitar solo's boring the shit out of my audience. I also managed to stay on stage for more than hour and never berated my fans when I was doing a gig like I was some sort of demi-god no one understood. I wrote coherent lyrics for the people and I'm not a pompous asshole. I stopped playing rock and roll with a career I am proud of instead of droning on and on for no goddamned reason except to milk my fans for money.

I also married a hot piece of ass. She was in Singles.

1. Danny Elfman...wait, wasn't he in Devo?
It was either Devo or Flock of Seagulls. One of those two.

Oh wait! Now I know, it was Men without Hats!

I love "Safety Dance!"

"S(s,s,s,s,s) A(a,a,a,a,a) F(f,f,f,f,f)...."

31. Dammit
I was hoping nobody brought that up. That was a great version, wasn't it?

Then, there's that shit that one guy pulled in the 90s and it sucked so bad the low pressure system kept California from floating off the edge of the continent.

I think Sarah Palin's husband used to belong to it.

12. I think that's what makes the dichotomy between his pop and his film scores so brilliant
It took me a while to get it into my head that this was the same guy responsible for both "Weird Science" and the soundtrack for "Nightbreed."

15. Oh, now there's a brilliant source to emulate...
That makes it all better--it was based on a show that has come to epitomize white supremacy and the paternalistic fantasies of racists. :o

I'm just picking, I like Danny Elfman. I just don't understand all these weird competitions and judgements of entertainers like there's some objective way to judge them. Smashing Pumpkins have a lot of fans, they've done their job. Any attempt to objectively claim that one act is better than the other completely misunderstands the concept of art. One may be more technically skilled or more educated in the intricacies of the craft or better versed in the history and development of music, but those are just guideposts. The only real judgement of art is how many people it appeals to.

17. I think it's possible to sing a song as a character.
You can sing a point of view that is not really you "speaking."

And the band's name is funny, but they were a talented bunch. "Not My Slave" is a fabulous song, for example.

18. The smashing pumpkins have had some stupid lyrics
But the music was always good. Cherub Rock, Today, Disarm, Mayonnaise, Porcelina, Ruby, Farewell & goodnight, etc. The list goes on.

I've heard Corgan is a huge asshole in person.

21. Corgan is a giant douche
with an overly inflated ego and delusions of his own grandeur. His biggest problem is that he read his own press in the 1990s and believes his some sort of rock god. But he's not.

26. I was reading some recent interview where he was crying about audiences
treating them like a "reunion band" and demanding they play their hits from the past. Boohoo. They had ONE great album...guess what that makes you when you get back together and tour after many years, Billy? A REUNION BAND. Guess what good reunion bands do? They play the music that made them famous in the first place; they DON'T dither about experimenting on the audience with new "eclectic" material from their "more mature and evolved place in life".

Here is a truly awesome article about what a little dickcheese Billy Corgan is (long, but funny):

Billy: "You hurt me. You hurt me deeply."

What a putz.
