Harley's With Modified Pipes - American Way or Noise Pollution? |
|
i'm going to get flamed here but every time someone rides by on a Harley with those modified pipes, i cringe.
why does someone feel the urge to blow people's ears off and make the windows shatter.
i HATE 'em!
*donning flame resistent suit*

And I also think that Harleys are pieces of crap to begin with. Oh, and "Stairway to Heaven" is a slow, plodding song that should only be played on easy listening channels. And your favorite band sucks! And...

IMO there is no earthly reason why anyone should try to make as much noise as possible. IMO such folk want attention and they'll do anything their innate arrogance demands to get it.
I'd scream "sorry about your penis!" to such riders, but they wouldn't hear me.

6. Being from Wisconsin, I don't mind loud Harleys. it's a tradition thing. |
|
Edited on Mon Mar-08-04 03:58 PM by JonathanChance
It's those fucking loud jacked-up pickup trucks that bug the hell outta me! Whenever I see one of those jacked up pickups, (loud or not), I waggle my pinky at em ;)
Luckily, they have been getting rarer and rarer now that the Marinette County Sheriff's Department has been strictly enforcing vehicle noise regs and slapping heavy fines on people who illegaly replace thier factory pipes with loud pipes! (In WI, it's illegal to modify one's exhaust system in any way that amplifies the noise of the vehicle.) Plus, both out county judges hate loud pickups, too! Our Sheriff and both out judges are both repukes, but their cracking down on these assboats makes them great guys in my book! Unfortunatley, The loud trucks from the Menominee, MI side of the river still get away with loud pipes because their Sheriff's dept don't do shit to enforce their vehicle noise laws

7. They are no worse than the damned monster trucks everyone drives. |
|
Nothing like having my eardrums shattered by the sound of some numbnuts driving a stinking deisel pick-up that runs louder than most semi-tractors.

14. Most of the Jacked-up pickups I know of aren't Diesls... |
|
They accelerate too quickly to be Diesls. With accelerations like that they have to have big, inefficient gas engines in 'em. (Fucking redneck high school kids.....)

19. These aren't jacked up trucks. They are regular off-the-rack models. |
|
They are just enormous diesel pickups.
Apparently, every Joe Sixpack in my neighborhood hauls an 80-foot yacht everywhere they go so they need 15,000 hp diesel trucks.

"Loud pipes save lives" excuse, but my reaction to that is "bulls**t"!! Loud pipes do nothing mere than cause irritation. Why they are allowed to get away with it is beyond me. There are noise decibel for motor vehicles. Why don't the police DO SOMETHING?????

15. You know what I have noticed? |
|
A lot of these jacked-up pickups are driven by high school kids. Hell, down in some high schools in Green Bay and the Fox Cities, there are whole cliques of guys who drive these things, many emblazoned with Confederate Battle Flag decals. In Fact, when I was attneding an anit-war demo in Manitowoc, we had a couple of these teenage ass cantalopues in trucks with Confederate battle flag decals pasted all over them, harassing us with their PA systems for about an hour or so.

20. Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution, |
|
unless it is coming out of those car stereos with huge speakers that blast bass for miles. Although, it's usually rap coming out of those speakers, so I guess rock and roll still ain't noise pollution.
Oh, you asked about those pipes? Yeah, they're pretty bad, but not quite as annoying as all the Japanese bikes riding around the track in Louden with their comparably high-pitched sound.

21. I don't mind them now and then really, after all a Harley is a HARLEY |
|
. . .
And I'll put it in perspective,
at least for me here in Northern Ontario
I love to camp, and some of my camping spots are near the Quebec Ontario border, where there is a highway that is pretty much unpatrolled by the Police -
Sooo
It is not unusual to hear a few "hogs" havin' a good old boot down one of the straightaways . .
What bugs me noise-wise, and confused me at first is STEREO SYSTEMS !!
Yah, I would start to hear a deep thump, thump getting closer and closer, - one pays ATTENTION to noises in the bush . . .
anyways the thumping gets closer, then a weenie car with barely enough horsepower to keep the battery charged for some massive mind-blowing ear-drum shattering stereo system idles on by . . .
Personally, I prefer the odd group of Harleys roaring by
- at least they sound like what they are !!

I live in SF, in a very quiet neighborhood in which houses are smack up gainst each other. We all try to be respectful of each other and keep the steroes etc. down to a minimum, especially during summer when we all have our windows open.
Then some folks move in a few doors up the hill and they have just such hogs. And I frankly want to shoot them.
It's not enough that those fuckers are so noisy they set off car alarms, but the owners have the idle set so lopey that it takes them forever to get them lit and running.
And at 7:30 in the morning, listening to them try to get those monsters started, I want to scream.
Then life got worse. A Harley Hole-In-The-Wall parts/repair shop opened on our local commercial strip and the neighborhood was suddenly overrun with hog drivers.
Now I love bikes, but pox on noisey ones! I'll take a quietish whine over a hog any day of the week.
