Poll question: i finally saw howl's moving castle, which miyazaki movie should i watch next? |
|
it was on par with princess mononoke and spirited away in terms of visuals, but i thought the story was more poignant and human than either. i haven't purchased a dvd in quite a few years, but i think i'm going to have to get this one.
which movie should i watch next?

1. Out of that list, Totoro. |
|
Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle are my next two favorites from Miyazaki.

4. I said Nausica, but they are all good. Don't leave off Porco Rosso. |
|
I liked Nausica better than Princess Mononoke. Howl's Moving Castle was more human and poignant than Spirited Away, but his visuals and style were more derivative of his past films. Spirited Away, to me, is his best.
Kiki's was the first one I saw. Very sweet movie. Castle is good. Totoro is adorable, but not the sophistication of his later work.
I like them all, even the partial-Miyazakis, like "Whispers of the Heart" or "The Castle of Cagliostro," or "The Cat Came Back."

Elliot Gould and Peter Boyle were standouts. :)

14. That's like saying Scooby Doo is a great Pixar film. |
|
It is great in its own right, but it's not Miyazaki.

13. Castle in the Sky, I love tremendously. Also, Porco Rosso |
|
Frankly, if you're on Netflix, you can order his entire Lupan/Lupin the Third run from his olden days. No sophistication at all, but a surprising fun show.

And I'm man enough to admit it. Then again, I've been known to cry at Coke commercials.

You will probably want to see all those you listed as well. By the way, the Dianna Wynn Jones book that Howl's Moving Castle was based on is well worth a read (as are many of her other works).
