I just want to say to any other folks here who've had it happen to them, I realize why you feel like absolute shit afterwards.
Just another statistic for the record books--and my God does it ever make me sick to my stomach.

You are certainly in good company, at-any-rate, since this is happening all over our country. :-(

12. Take it from somebody who's been laid off twice in two years |

And re-hired...
This isn't about you, it's about the economy.
The company you worked for, despite valiant efforts by an able management, were not able to overcome the ill effects of a world wide recession.
You don't blame them, and you sympathize with them for the tough choices they had to make.
If you were in their place, you would have done the same.
But you are ready to turn the page and start a new an exciting chapter in your life.
You are a valuable asset, and you are looking for a company that you can help to grow and be successful.
This is the attitude you must bring to every job interview.
This is the attitude that will get you to your next job.
You are not a loser; you are a pragmatic, professional individual, ready to tackle the next challenging assignment.
Best of luck!

One of my family members is on shaky ground at her job, and another was told today that she should make sure to use all her floating holidays up since she wouldn't be paid for those if she is laid off.
Oy.

19. I'm so sorry. It happened for me in December, just before Christmas. |

"Financial reasons," of course. Yet somehow the CEO managed to go on three vacations since the beginning of the year while all my friends who still work there had to take extra work, pay freezes and slashed benefits. Pretty typical of the guy though.
I hope things are better for you soon.
