I just spent $9 to see the "Wolverine" movie. Please don't make the same mistake I did.

Wow, was that an incredible waste of nine dollars!

If you know Wolverine's backstory and you've seen the trailers,
then you already have more satisfaction in your head than
you will ever derive from viewing this film.
It is complete and utter SHITE.

Back in my day, we had a thing called "Direct to Video"...
and this is the X-Man film that that just should have gone that route.

Rent it for 99 cents 3 months from now, but please don't
burn gasoline to see it on a big screen.

1. Yeah the dialog and script pretty much sucked
Anyone who's seen the cartoons (like me) know the Wolverine origin story already and it was done much better in the cartoons IMO. Bad Marvel bad!

2. I thought the first 2/3 of it were pretty good.
From the fight with Blob on is when it lost me. Everything after was pretty lame. The fights were alright, but that's it.

Gambit was totally unnecessary.

The first 2/3rds were just good enough that the thought of LEAVING didn't occur to me.
By the time I thought about walking out,
I had been there so long that I figured I
might as well stick it out, on the off-chance
that the film would have some sort of "Big Finish".

I was wrong.

I could have walked out halfway through and sat alone in the parking lot
drinking beer while IMAGINING Wolverine's origins, and THAT
would have been a much better use of my time.

3. Yeah, I'm with you.
About the 2/3 point and peaking in awfulness with Deadpool unleashing the optic blasts.

Still, my expectations were lowered enough to where I wasn't outraged leaving the theater.

4. Well, speaking as a female, naked Hugh Jackman was worth the price of admission
The Patrick Stewart cameo at the end made me happy, too.

But if Patrick Stewart and buff Hugh Jackman aren't enough, well... I pretty much second all your critiques of the actual film. The plot was uninspired and the dialogue was terrible. It's too bad Gambit had nothing to do, as he's always been one of my favorite X-Men.

Worth the price of admission, I tell ya.

29. Briefly. Very briefly.
Don't waste your money on a movie ticket;
wait to rent the DVD so you can PAUSE it at that moment.

Speaking as a GUY: he looks incredible.
I think he's almost as old as me, but he's
WAY better looking in his birthday suit.
He looks like like he 'works out' a LOT!

16. The real bummer is: just as I was posting this thread...
...some DUers were posting threads about how GREAT 'Star Trek' was.

I guess my "mistake" was going to the theatre
before I checked with DU. If I had waited a day
to have my once-a-month 'Movie night', I would have spent
my 9 bucks on a better movie!

You realize that I could have spent that $9 downloading
78 hours worth of badly filmed former-Soviet-Bloc PORN?

Somewhere in that 78 hours, there would have been 15 minutes worth WATCHING...
and that's more than I can say about that "Wolverine" movie.

A "Story" should have a beginning, a middle, and an end.
That movie was just a whole bunch of MIDDLE.

Richard

18. Bingo. Actually I watched both online for free.
I need to give you a great link for that.
Yeah, totally unimpressed with Wolverine. And I had such high hopes!
Soviet porn? delish, I think. I am slightly terrified, considering Cinemax porn usually sends me into either gales of laughter or running from the room. But, I do have a very open mind.
Link exchange?

And, ALWAYS come to DU before ANY major decisions, haven't you learned that by now?

19. No LINK will be of any use to me at the present time.
I'm currently living so far from actual CIVILIZATION
that I'm online via an AOL Dialup connection.

I shit you not: That's just how BAD
things are for me at the present time.

20. Christ. So sorry. I have been there, it sucks.
Edited on Sun May-10-09 03:47 AM by Dammit Ann
Then I guess my sparkling personality shall have to suffice.

Seriously, I have been there. Ninth ward new orleans on the run from the law. And I'm white. About starved didn't even know what cable was like. Food, well, I did learn to cook my ass off, had to, just to eat for 20 bucks a week, became a sous chef there. Here, a server. Ah, life...

Luckily, I'm 5 years on now and married to the same fucker that was running (he's white , too) When you are running you go to safety. (I went to an inner city high school, very comfortable, and invisible in the hood.) Although, I am more Irish than anyone's grandmother...

I was willing to go thru all that to be with him, haven't regretted it, after 15 years together and managed to come out the other side, whole, but damaged.

You will find a way, believe it.

All this was over a DUI, BTW. That got thrown out. Panic is not your friend.

Where are you? I can probably at least try to make things easier. I've been known to do just that, even with foreigners, like Canadians. Very old post reference.

they must have something AMAZING saved up for the finale."

They didn't. :(

12. Wasn't going to, but appreciate the warning.
I saw the first X-Men movie and will never make the mistake of seeing anything associated with the franchise again. I'm sorry, but that movie was so fucking stupid - not as bad as Ang Lee's Hulk movie, but close.

27. Wow. That's hardcore bad.
Guess I'll wait for the DVD.

I started to cringe when I heard that Gambit (perhaps the second most panderingly conceived characters in all of Marveldom) would be in it. And then I head that Deadpool (hands-down the most panderingly conceived) was in it, I sort of decided to miss it.

At least they recast Sabretooth. I couldn't live in a universe in which Tyler Mane reprised his role from X-Men 1.

28. Your instincts serve you well.
"Cringe" is a good word.

I wish I had CRINGED enough to go across the street
and see "Star Trek", or go up the road to a bar and spend
$9 for 3 beers and a greasy cheeseburger....
but I didn't.

My bad.
