First you have to think what 'fattening' someone up might mean and in certain doctrines it means fat cats, or people of great admiration by other people.
These people are fattened up, especially if they buy into there own press, and then everyone turns on them.
This is one of the ways the worst in people is fed.
You see it with celebrity stars many times, they are built up, then torn down, I think this is to get people envious, and then let that envy lead to bad thoughts when an opportunity to judge someone comes up.
It happens in other situations also, where cycles of violence replace group after group by using people that hate the previous group.
I think if, I ever got a place of status, I would hope that I would use the other way. The way to always reach out to the other side and treat with respect and kindness, but I of coarse do not always achieve that better way in my simple life, so I am glad things are simple for me, I don't know how well I would handle the temptations people of status have, and am blessed not to have to face those temptations.
And to know that if you ever get in a place of status, to remind people they are as good as you are, and it is not your glory, but gifts given. And know that it is far better not to be fattened up by pride or self importance. Even though it is really easy to fall into that trap.
I guess the other part is don't let that cycle get you to judge others with hate or anger, or even envy, know that even if they make mistakes, the job is to improve things, not focus on others failures.
Edit: These are thoughts I try to live up to, but don't always succeed at, but they are what I would like to try and be like when I think on a gossip story, smear, or even actions I disagree with.
