1. I've made that judgement before.
Don't like to stereotype, but that's been my personal experience.

3. No, they just want to save on monogramming
Seriously, Mrs. OBD is from one of those families, as is a close friend of mine, and neither are from families fitting that mold. It was just a cute thing to do -- that's all.

4. Hmmm, that grill peddler doofus... or Bill Cosby, of whom do you reference?

I'm thinking the grill peddler -- Bill Cosby seems too intelligent to use the tactic out of vanity...

5. Didn't George Foreman give all his 83 kids the same name?
(I assume he's the grill dude you're talking about).

22. You ever read the genealogy of the Bach family?
The Bachs of classical music fame were descended from one Johannes Hans Bach. He had two sons, Heinrich Bach and Christoph Bach.

Heinrich had four children: Johann Christoph, Johann Michael, Johann Nicolaus and Maria Barbara.

Christoph had two children: Johann Ambrosius and Johann Christoph.

Johann Ambrosius had two children: Johann Sebastian and Johann Jacob.

Of all these Johanns, only one ever produced any known children. Johann Sebastian married Maria Barbara Bach, and had two children, neither of whom was named Johann. When she died, he remarried Anna Magdalena Wilcke and went on a tear, having six children, three boys and three girls. The boys were Gottfried Heinrich, Johann Christoph Friedrich and Johann Christian. The girls were Elisabeth Juliane, Johanna Carolina and Regina Susanna. Of this generation, only two married. Johann Christoph Friedrich married Lucia Elisabeth Munchhusen and had three children, two girls and Wilhelm Friedrich Ernst; he married and had two girls. Elisabeth Juliane married a man named Johann and had one son, who they also named Johann.

I mean, come on: Johann is a perfectly fine name but this is ridiculous.

15. Half my male ancestors are named Jose Antonio
Reminds me of the novel, 100 Years of Solitude, where most of the male characters are named Jose Arcadio.

I used to laugh at that.

Then I did some genealogy and realized how common that practice was....

14. Guilty!!
And this is how it happened-

My husband and I both have names starting with M. We named our son an "M" name because we liked it. Then we thought our daughter would feel left out if she didn't have an "M" name, so we gave her one. Now she says she wouldn't have minded

17. I know a couple of families like that, and the letter is "J."
I know two families, both in my church, in which everyone's name begins with "J." I always found that weird, and it also makes it hard to remember their names. I think one family's son is Jamie, the other one, I forget. The other day I was trying to think of the father's name and it took me a while to remember that it's Jeff. Making matters worse is that it seems that a majority of the boys in church have names beginning with "J."

Edited on Thu Jun-11-09 08:40 PM by jmm
There's no special reason for it like with the Duggards. "J" names just happen to be popular, especially on my mom's side of the family.

you might be able to describe one parent as as egotistical, but not the other by a long shot.

24. I think you're onto something. I know one person who did that, and she fits the description.
I think all tabby cats should be given a name that starts with "M", because they have an "M" on their foreheads.

I had one named "Molly." One that is hanging around the apartments now I call "Magnus."

Named for queens, not because

Michael and Melissa.

I picked my daughters name, my ex-husband picked my sons name. They just ended up with the same first letter by coincidence.

Edited on Fri Jun-12-09 11:01 AM by femmocrat
My poor dad would call us "M-M-M-M .... what's-your-name!" LOL He didn't have an egotistical bone in his body.

I don't think it was intentional. We were given family names and it just worked out that way.

As a teacher, I usually get siblings with the same first initial mixed up, though.
