Do you drive over the speed limit?

I do sometimes. Usually it starts out because I want to keep up with the flow of traffic, but before long I find myself driving too fast along with too many other drivers, and I have to make a conscious effort to stop doing it.

Lately I'm being more strict and forcing myself to drive the speed limit if I'm not impeding the flow of traffic. It's a weird feeling because for some reason I usually want to keep up with the flow, even if I'm not blocking anyone by driving the speed limit.

I'm doing it not only to cut down on fuel costs, but to lessen my stress levels. I find myself getting stressed by it all and for me it makes for a much more pleasant driving experience to just drive the speed limit.

it's nearly impossible to find anyone going the speed limit on freeways... but today I saw someone fluctuating between the speed limit and five miles over... and they insisted on staying in the middle lane, despite cars passing them on both sides. Bah.

I am very conscious about staying to the speed limit in residential areas.

I have learned, in my many years of driving, that there are a multitude of good reasons to keep your speed down (gas mileage, less likely to get a ticket, easier to control car in unexpected situations).

I think there's a lot to be said for going w/ the flow of traffic, which is why 5 to 10 mph over the posted limit seems to work on the highway.

So the speed limit rarely is higher than 30 anyways.

it's mostly all 30 mph streets, but as soon as you get out of the city proper, it's 55/60. It's weird. I'm used to cities with a more gradual change between speed limits.

Not enough cops... LOTS of speeders / tailgaters. It's aggravating when they get on my tail and expect me to speed. I have to wonder why they don't just go around. Is the law against passing over a double yellow somehow more sacred to them than the law against speeding? I just chuckle at their idiocy and try not to get too stressed. But it does stress me. I hate tailgaters.

Speeders bug the crap out of me. They act like they are the only ones on the roads and the roads were made for only them. They don't seem to give a shit about other people using the road, but it is funny when you see them get pulled over right after they pass you up.

On the highway, yes (you live in North TX-- you know what would happen to us if we did the posted limit on 635 or I-20 :P ).

But everywhere else, it's the speed limit for me, and if someone behind me needs to go faster, I guess they just should have left earlier.

I don't lead, I don't follow, and I don't get out of the way... :P

people are frickin crazy. Did you see on the news that Dallas was ranked as having the second rudest drivers? Just confirms what I already know. But I suppose aggression is a whole other topic on its own. Even slower drivers can be way too aggressive.

Most of my freeway driving is done on the tollway... might be wrong, but I think it's even worse there than on 635 or I-20.

I've only had one. I'd just turned onto the tollway and was trying (a little too hard) to speed up, in order to avoid aggravating the speed-racers coming up behind me. Really smart!

I think if I tried driving the speed limit on some of these highways I'd get shot or at the very least run off the road,lol.

I usually drive 5 or 10 miles over the limit someitmes more sometimes less depending on where I am.

On the road that leads to my neighborhood the limit is 25 and I follow that because it is a very narrow winding road and there have been accidents that killed. so, yeah.

or beltway it usually ranges between 5-10 over the limit, and I stay in the middle lanes (never on the left).
In cities, I drive in the left lane usually as there are many "right lane must turn rights" and I dont want to block those right-turners, and just go with the traffic which is around 5-7 over limit.

I started driving 55 on 2 lane highways about 5 years ago to save gas and have maintained that ever since. 65 on 4 lanes.

Sometimes it's hard to do the speed limit on the freeways around DC. People drive insanely fast.
What pisses me off is when they speed through residential areas, or blink their lights at me on a 4 lane highway when I'm in the left lane because I want to make a left turn.

Also, there's the issue of global warming. I wonder how much extra greenhouse gas is attributable to speeding drivers. Not saying it's a primary source... but... well... it all adds up.
