Aesthetically speaking, is there a difference between cat shit and squirrel shit? |
|
I ask for purposes of an art exhibit.

1. You could ask any one of my three dogs |
|
They're intimately familiar with both.
Intimately. Familiar.

Exhibited cat shit would almost certainly require imbedded bits of kitty litter.

3. That would imply that I bother with a litter box. |
|
I don't. I feel it impedes a cat's freedom.

6. Fair enough, but the exhibition art world has its demands and expectations. |
|
Perhaps a neighbor will let you forage in their kitty box ....

My valuable field guide "Scats and Tracks of the Desert Southwest" describes squirrel shit as "small shapeless black masses to small, usually unconnected ovals.
It doesn't list domestic cats but has bobcat, jaguarundi, ocelot, mountain lion, and jaguar for cats - plus numerous canids. Let me know if you want descriptions. I must say weasel shit is very interesting and may be aesthetically JUST what you are looking for!

Absolutely. Squirrel shit is charming. |
|
It looks almost like tiny Hershey's kisses.

Another DUer recently said to me "Bertha Venation doesn't know shit." I must now respectfully disagree.

Pet owners who pay attention to their pets' prey know these things. Whether that's good or bad I can't say.

7. If you include smell, yes |
|
Cat poop is among the stinkiest things you'll ever come across. Apparently the shit of true carnivores like cats stinks worse than the shit of omnivores or herbivores. The stink does dissipate after a while so if your art project is going to last more than an hour or so, there probably will be no discernible difference in smell.

8. That depends - cat shit is closer to modeling clay |
|
Now if you're building stacks, I would go with the squirrel shit - more uniform in shape.
