Ever work some place that gave employees free meals?
And then abuse the privilege so much that you gain 20 pounds and then management has to take away the free food privilege for all employees?

1. I used to work at a restaurant where we got to eat free.
We were supposed to eat the cheapest shit on the menu. And, for the perk of this "free meal" we got to work for minimum wage with no hope of getting a raise. So, whenever the owner wasn't in the restaurant, it was a non-stop feeding frenzy that included everything from pizza to delmonico steaks. That's what the guy gets for being a total asshole and treating his workers like shit.

2. I used to work at McDonald's
and we got one free meal for every shift. I had a manager try to bribe me once with a free meal..but that is another topic for another thread.

3. At my weekend job,
cook at a neighborhood grill type restaurant, all the employees eat free. I have really only seen one person abuse it in the four years I have worked there, and he doesnt work there anymore. That place is so busy, though, I am lucky if I find the time to eat anything.

7. Yes and no
as a roustabout on a drilling rig, I had to stay in an encampment for the entire work week.

Meals and lodging were free.

But gaining weight while you're working on a drilling rig is not a problem; you'll burn every calorie. Believe me.

9. Yes. I worked in a restaurant while in college.
There were only three things on the menu that we could choose. We quickly figured out how to get around that. Unfortunately, one waitress was caught with a hot turkey sandwich and was fired!

Cheap basturds.

11. Um...I used to work at Starbucks.
After college I worked my ass off to lose 100+ lbs. I started at Starbucks weighing 191, six months later I was 240, when I left in Dec. of this year I was right back where I started right after college at 315.

Now...thanks to a water, bread, salad and enforced meal times diet...I'm maybe 240? I don't know I refuse to own a scale, weight is a number...I want to look good; if that happens at 215, 191 or 165 is okay with me.

No, they never took away our beverage and pastry sampling privs.

12. My part-time gig is at a chef run place.
The previous chef and her girlfriend abused the eating drinking thing so much it was taken away. They also stole two sinks intended for the expansion,... told the owner they were never delivered. But once they were fired it became apparent to the owner that the rest of us were not to blame and she allowed the new chef to restore the shift meal (The flat iron yes, the NY strip no,.... soups/salads always), shift drink and off duty employee discounts. We are all much happier.

14. My son used to work for a software company that provided free lunches.
Edited on Fri Jul-10-09 12:38 PM by mnhtnbb
Then it became only Friday free lunches. Then he came to work after New Year's 2008 and was laid off
along with 75% of his tech support department!

Better a job than a free lunch!

18. No, I actually lost weight on that job.
Mind you, I wasn't eating a lot that summer anyway and actually was trying to lose weight, so it wasn't surprising. But I ate what I liked whenever they served us food at work.
