or something similar. I was on "The Bus" ride at the APA meeting last year. Very disturbing and really makes you feel for schizophrenia sufferers.

4. Oh, it's definitely worth it |
|
I'm like you - I was overpowered by curiosity (but also by the desire for a cool clock/barometer for which I had to go through 3 interactive exhibits)!

DOn't do it! Egads. I had to work in the State Hospital as a nursing student on a locked ward with the criminal schizophrenics. 8 weeks and it was very awful. No more state hospital and these poor souls are now out on the street except for the ones they just threw in jail. How on earth can this be mimiced with a machine? More, I have to know.

It is a virtual reality exhibit basically. Helmet with lots of speakers and goggles. It mimics the A/V halluciantions.

7. The one I did was a little room built to look like a bus |
|
You didn't go anywhere, but it's set up to seem as though there's a bus driver turning to ask you questions, people talking about you behind your back, etc. etc. You find yourself looking around to see who's talking to you, and they disappear, but when you turn around again there's someone else telling you're no good. Extremely disturbing.

a difficult job. What do you do? Check on their meds? I worry so about these folks, they can be so helpless but they can also be so devious and dangerous. With all the different types it must be very difficult. I hate what this society does to its mentally ill people.
