Computer question. I did a family tree of Familytreemaker. I sent the family tree
and the program to a distant cousin in Scotland. He said he couldn't get it going. Are PCs different in Canada/USA vs. Great Britain? Is the programing different?

1. Does he actually have a PC and not a Mac or something else?

3. Information I got was it didn't translate. I'll be seeing Some day soon.
I assume he has a PC otherwise he would have said he had a mac.

4. Did you send the FTW .exe or an install file?
If it was just the FTW.exe then that won't work. He would need the entire installation disk.

7. Has he tried uninstalling, deleting the FTW directory and reinstalling?
Does it work except for opening the file you sent him?
Check the event logs and see if there is any error.

6. Does the cousin have FTM?
If the cousin is using some other genie software (or perhaps an older FTM) he might not be able to read it. Export the tree to a GEDCOM format.

8. No, but FTM has several different versions.
My mom uses a 3.0 (yes, Windows 3.0) machine for FTM. I only have one machine that runs that now and it only boots about one out of three times I try.
