but not a definitely not jock. I kinda' did my own thing and was friends with a wide variety of people, smart kids the weird kids, and even the jocks. My close friends and I considered ourselves rock-n-roll rebels.

When I was a freshman I got in big trouble and was sent to a special disciplinary class for a month and when I came back I was actually more popular than before. I had girls who wouldn't give me the time of day before show interest once I was branded a "bad boy". Go figure.

34. I tried to ignore High School as much as possible - Geek fer sher!!!
When I hung out, it was with a bunch of hot car guys
(This was the mid '60's) and we'd drive around town with about 5 guys in somebody's car and just listen to the radio and talk dumb shit. Kick in a buck each or so for gas, get half a tank in a '59 Pontiac V8 Bonneville. That was the best part of school - after.

I still hate school.

I played football, which was terribly unpopular, and politically incorrect at the time. My school had over 1600 students, yet our Varsity football squad could muster only 19 players. We did not even have enough players to practice a full scrimmage. We lost every game. Becoming a freak was a much more rewarding endeavor.

47. We also had "stoner," "sporto" and "soch"
"Stoner" were those guys who hung around the back fence a lot, we suspected that they were smoking pot before school, but we never knew. They were kind of antisocial, but did not lack social skills like loners did.

"Sporto" was our term for "jock." "Girl Sporto" was kind of a nebulous euphemism for either tomboy or lesbian. "Queer" was used for effeminate boys.

"Soch" (short for "social") were those very popular girls who were either on the cheerleading squad or whatever, had lots of friends, were always giggling, and were usually going steady with a boyfriend by the time they graduated (and in the yearbook said they planned to marry him). "Soches" were well-known around the campus but kind of despised by the loner crowd.

Oddly, though, my high school seemed to hold nerds or geeks in high esteem, if they had high grade point averages, made the National Honor Society, or had some other academic achievement. They were not belittled or ostracized at my school.

68. There was overlap at my high school too.
I knew jocks and cheerleaders who were among the brainiest of my classmates and showed up in the AP courses. It's not that everyone was highly well-adjusted and free of stereotypes, but it just goes to show you...

50. It was the late 70's. I was a "late bloomer."
You gotta figure that in the late 70's we were all chemical in some way--mostly booze but a lot of other stuff too.

I did the music thing and the theatre thing--so I was never really alone even if I was neurotic enough to think I was.

I never really hit my stride until I was in college, if you want the truth...

We only had 150 people in my class, and the whole school had less than 600. Most people knew each other. There were cliques, of course, but not the rigidly defined ones that other people experienced. I was a band geek, for the most part, but I got along with everyone

I never fit any stereotype of a freak, geek, or jock. Pretty the only labels were Preps, mormons, and skaters. Some of every group got good grade, played sports, or may have done unusual things and some were part of a group and did all 3(Grades, sports, freak things).

63. I was a freak/stoner in the gifted program
I was a gifted child but had a chaotic home life so I became a stoner/freak. I got along with the geeks/nerds because I could talk to them on their level but I was generally at loggerheads with the jocks and the soches (except for the ones that I sold weed to). I went to a lot of the parties and had a girlfriend and my teachers generally liked me (again, the smart thing).
