I am having trouble finding a part for one of my bikes....the 1981 Harley Sportster. I need another oil tank as the one on it now is badly dented. I want to finish stripping the drive train out of the frame for powder coating and need a new oil tank to carry to have powder coated in the process.
None of the after-market or custom tanks will fit this bike. It is lovingly referred to as a 'bastard year model' due to the fact no other year models before or after are like it. It was the transition Sportster after Harley got rid of AMF....anyway....
I do not have a donor star to post in the motorcycle forum but, hopefully there is a rider that hangs out in the lounge some.
Thanks for your help if you can give it and if you cannot, thanks anyway (for bothering to read my post). :hi:

I night have one in my pile of parts that I have out in the shed. I helped a friend chop a sporty about 10 years ago, can't remember if it was an 81 or not but it was from somewhere around that year. If it turns out it was, you can have it. I'll try ti get hold of him today and ask him.

Just talked to my friend, it was a '79 that we chopped, I knew it was somewhere around there :(
I do have a custom, funky old chrome octagonal retro oil tank you cauld have, but have no idea what it's supposed to go on. It's probably for a sportster but might be for a triumph
