3. Coincidentally, I just started writing it last night
I've written notes and given the concept a lot of thought but last night I started writing chapter one because I was bored. It's probably in the category of social science-fiction and it's not a space opera -- everything takes place on earth. I am resisting the urge to reveal the title because it's a very cool one and I don't want anyone to steal it.

4. I can't really think of a title right now..something like..growing gay couples
I'd like to write a book loosely modeled over my ex,Bobby..(he was such a character) and me. We met when we were kids and spent 15 years together. It was an absuive realationship and for some reason we kept going. I have a lot of memories and think with a ghost writer I could get them penned.

5. lots of people think they can write a great novel

I have always fancied myself as a female Kurt Vonnegut, if only I had the talent , vision and discipline to do so.

7. I'm 3/4 of the way through my first novel
Edited on Sun Jul-12-09 11:26 AM by HamdenRice
It's about three families -- two African American, one Irish-American -- in the outer boroughs of NYC, told backwards from the aftermath of 9/11 to 1968.

I've written several book length non-fiction studies of South Africa.

16. I started to write a book about my life many years ago...
I entitled it "My Life." I kid you not! LOL

Now, I wouldn't write about my life. I would write about traveling... or just short stories. Maybe I would entitle it "Glimpses." I like that title. Now, for certain, someone will steal THAT one from me....

damn, someone already used that title. Oh well, guess I don't have to bother with it then! ;-)

19. I'm in the process of writing one right now.
It's a sort of fantasy epic, though there's nothing too "out there" - just some fox people, an alchemist, and some seers. It's the first in a trilogy, and after that I have ANOTHER trilogy of books planned. One step at a time, though.

24. American Brigadoon
There is an area in the country where my great grandparents settled - a turn of the century community in rural Missouri where people raised their families, started and tended a 1 room school house, helped each other in all aspects of life and now have moved on. They used to hold an annual reunion of the people in and from the area and it always intrigued me. It is no more, just unincorporated rural farms, etc. I have always wanted to reasearch the people and the events and preserve them for history.

25. When I set out to write my first novel,
I just wrote it. Told a story about some people I imagined, in situations that I made up. Having never taken a writing course, or even read a book on writing, I just did what I'd so enjoyed in all the novels I'd read in my life.

So, when it sold to a big publisher and people started to ask me what its theme was, I had to ask my agent. She gave me a list of themes she'd found in the ms - forgiveness, redemption, truth, fear, bodysnatching, the right to die.

Then, when people asked its "genre," I had to ask my publisher what that was. She told me it was something people liked to ask about when they couldn't think of anything else to ask, but she told me to say "literary fiction."

When I submitted its title - the title on the contract was never going to be the real one - my agent and editor said to me, "You don't have a gift for titles, do you?" and the first one ended up being titled by my agent, who had a flash of intuition about it on MLB's opening day - the title could be a baseball metaphor.

Now, I write, and then I find out what I wrote about when my agent tells me.

As for titles, I don't even try anymore. They'll just mock me, and it sucks when good friends mock you....................
