I'm calling out .... HEIDI.
So I was thinking - most of us know Heidi was a southern american, adopted at a young age (6?) after growing up with her biological family. She's married to CMW - and now lives as a furriner. Her story is really fascinating and goes a long way toward explaining her current state of awesomeness.

I have, however, missed out on some of the stories behind these facts and was thinking about asking her the answers to satisfy my curiosity. Because she's so interesting I figure maybe others would be interested in her story as well.

Which brings me to ... CALLING HEIDI OUT. :P

Heidi, if you're willing and I'm not being too nosy, how did you and CMW meet and how did you become a furriner? Any other things about your life story you'd like to share please do - you're an incredible woman that's had some incredible experiences. The rest of us can certainly learn from you.

:D

1. I'll second
I like stories of "cultural bridging". My "best" friend is German. Our common interest started out about the San Pedro River watershed and horses.

I have brought it to her and CMW's attention...

As Peggy noted, it is late in their time zone, so it may be a bit before you get an answer.

14. I am not interesting!!!
Edited on Mon Jul-13-09 12:05 AM by Heidi
I am, in fact, president of the DU Ladies League (DULL).

In general, I came here for a three-month writing sabbatical at the invitation of friends, fell in lub with CMW, and married him about a month before Ginger was born. :)

The only other interesting thing I can think of to tell you is CMW's mother's first words to me when I met her. CMW and I had traveled from Zurich to Ticino by train (about three hours) so he could introduce me to his family.

"Would you like a douche?" his mom asked me.

I turned to CMW and whispered, "What the hell does she think we did on the train?"

I later learned that "douche" is the German term for "shower." :yoiks:

15. My dear Heidi!
I'm sorry, sweetie, but I must contradict you.

You are far from DULL! You are one of the most intelligent, compassionate, and lovely women here! Or anywhere, for that matter...

Great story about your MIL!

Believe me, I know interesting when I see it and that you are. Everybody here likes you. You are as interesting as a flower is to a bee. I was going to say something else, but I don't want CMW hopping a plane to Ohio and hunting me down. :D

37. I'm not sure whether that's a compliment or not.
Edited on Mon Jul-13-09 11:20 AM by Heidi
But it doesn't really matter. It's just my life. Nothing planned about it except for some good influences (my parents' get the credit for that, not me), a good decision here and there (this is the only thing I can take credit for), and a whole lot of luck (and luck has nothing at all to do with me; it just happens or doesn't happen). Had I not been adopted by extraordinarily good people, my life undoubtedly would have been very, very different than it is.

I only saw this thread because my friend, Lithos, PM'd me about it. :hi:
