One of my hens lost her tail feathers today after she |
|
wandered into the dogs' pen. Guinness pinned her and called Pooka out to help, which is how Pooka ended up with a mouth full of feathers. The hen is ruffled and maybe a bit chilly, but she should be OK. Both dogs have spent the afternoon staking out their pen in case another hen wanders in.

that will walk right up to our black lab mix and peck her right in the head. The dog gets up and leaves.
Glad your chickie baby is okay. :hi:

2. Our old dog Lassie used to like to be chained outside where she could keep |
|
an eye on my husband working in the garage. She would sneak around the back of the potting shed and wait until a bunch of chickens discovered her food dish, then she'd come tearing back around barking like crazy. The chickens would explode in every direction, squawking to beat the band. Lassie would look at us and grin.

That's pretty funny. I'm sure that was good for lots of laughs.
They do head immediately for the dog's bowl when you let them out of the pen, don't they? We started making sure the dog got fed first and then let them out. Don't want dog food in my eggs! :puke:
Plus the dog would just take off and not get to eat.

6. But there are some pretty nasty |
|
meat by-products contained in them. Stuff none of us would even dream of eating. Yuch!

7. I once saw my chickens surround and eat a mouse! It doesn't |
|
pay to pay to close attention to what they're eating.

9. Now see that doesn't bother me in the least. |

I've seen ours eat small mice, snakes, frogs, all manner of bugs. I just do not want the additives the meat industry puts into it's cattle. Not surprisingly, I don't buy meat in a grocery.
