7. I made a bean burrito
refried beans, peach salsa, sour cream, and cheddar cheese. I ate salt and vinegar chips with it too. Washed it down with a non-alcoholic beer that I had left over from my Dad's visit.

17. ...
:spray:

I missed them last year, the year before we were invaded by squash bugs so last year I didn't plant any. This year I bought a yellow crookneck by accident (thought it was a lemon cuke, it was in the wrong spot) and it is doing well, we are having swuash pretty regular from just the one plant.

20. If squash vine borers are a problem for you
you can switch to solid stem varieties of squashes instead of hollow stem. They don't burrow into the solid stemmed varieties. (Butternut for winter squash, rampicante/tromboncino for summer squash)

glad to hear your crookneck has survived despite the little buggers.

22. borers are some kind of larvea, right?
these were really stinky true bugs, and they have some kind of toxin that kills the plants when they pierce them to suck juices. They wiped out my zucchini, watermelon, and cukes. Fortunately I haven't seen either this year. Also the squash is in a different location. I have three volunteer pumpkin vines that came up and they are doing ok as well.

23. In one of their stages they are larvae
They are giant red beetle-moth things. They lay their eggs on the stalks, and when those hatch, the worm things go into the stems and eventually suck the plant dry.

I'll have to keep an eye out for squash bugs, I've been focused on the borers all this time.

18. it's too hot to cook or eat
so the house was put on notice: get it yourself. I think there is leftover vegetarian spaghetti, always beans, or embellished ramen. Or cereal. I might have some popcorn later. Just chugging ice water for now.
